A small, purpose-built museum on the edge of Siem Reap city, SM Art Center gathers handmade artworks by Cambodian artists across a series of exhibit rooms, with a QR-code audio guide available in several languages. The building itself, along with an attached cafe and a garden out front, is part of the experience, and a gift shop sits at the end of the visit. Workshops are also offered, including a painting session set in the garden that some visitors have taken as a hands-on complement to the galleries.
Guests consistently describe the space as clean, creative, and a welcome change from temple-heavy itineraries, with several noting that the artwork touches on Cambodia's modern history, including the late 1960s, and encourages quiet reflection rather than quick viewing. The ticket price is widely mentioned as reasonable, with a lower rate for Cambodians and students than for foreign visitors. A few reviewers found the layout and flow between exhibits confusing, and one noted the gift shop leans toward the craft-tourism style found elsewhere in the city, though most still called the overall visit worthwhile.
Plan on around 45 minutes if you want to see everything properly, longer if you add a workshop. The museum is open daily from 8am to 5pm. It suits travellers looking for something contemporary to mix into a Siem Reap itinerary otherwise dominated by temples, and those with an interest in Cambodian art and recent history in particular. Booking ahead for a workshop, such as the garden painting session, seems worthwhile given the personal attention some guests received.

I would like to express my sincere thanks to SM Art. It is a wonderful museum, thoughtfully created by our Cambodian people and especially made with pride and creativity.
The museum has a unique atmosphere, filled with handmade artworks that reflect our culture and identity. Every piece feels special and tells its own story, which makes the experience even more memorable.
What I really love about SM Art Centre is that it is not just a museum it represents the passion and pride of local artists. It is a great place to learn more about Cambodian art and support our community at the same time.
If you are visiting Siem reap, Cambodia, don’t miss this place. It’s inspiring, authentic, and absolutely worth your time.

I recently checked out SM Museum, and honestly, it’s a nice surprise in Siem Reap. The space is clean, creative, and a bit different from the usual temple visits. You can take your time walking through the exhibits, and some rooms are actually pretty fun to explore and take photos.
For locals, it’s only $2.5, and $5 for foreigners, which feels very reasonable for the experience. If you’re visiting Siem Reap and want something more modern to mix into your trip, this is worth stopping by. It’s simple, but in a good way—you just enjoy the space at your own pace.

Tickets cost $5 per person for non-Cambodians. Half that price for students and locals. The museum itself could take 45 minutes if you really took your time. Great QR code guide available in seceral languages. The gift shop at the end is a display in itself, although it does border on the "craft tourism" shops that are quite common in the city. The building, cafe, and garden out front are stellar.
I don't want to dog on this newly opened facility too hard, but I did find the layout and flow to be rather difficult. The performance artist (and founder) being the first exhibit, and revealing the medium of the main exhibit (good lord the top floor was remarkable), softened the blow in my opinion. Likely just a style / preference of my own, but it took me some time to wipe away the 'on the nose' work and settle into something abstract and immersive.
Kind of felt like someone explaining the

It’s a valuable visit for anyone with a little idea of the dark history of Cambodia since late 1960’s and surely art loving one must be.
The place is constantly evolving and 10 minutes of silence around the art itself makes one reflect. Human struggles, the cost of peace and freedom.

I had an absolutely wonderful experience with Malin and her team. I selected the painting workshop and ended up having a 1:1 session with Malin. She explained how to create a beautiful piece of art work based on the flowers and foliage in the peaceful garden surrounding the workshop. I also got to keep my canvas as a souvenir. Will forever remember her kindness.
