The Hideout is a great place to stay in Kampot. At this price point, you'd be hard-pressed to find better accommodation. Lance (owner) is a great guy, and all of his staff are excellent.
The food is top-notch and very reasonably priced as well.
Consistency is the key here . Varied menu and something for all tastes. Nice bunch of clientele with the odd visitor adding to stimulating n amusing antidotes of life .
We stayed at The Hideout during our trip to Cambodia and unfortunately had a deeply distressing experience after renting a scooter from them.
At first, the owner seemed very friendly and welcoming, which made what happened afterwards even more unsettling. The moment an issue was raised about the scooter, his attitude towards us completely changed. The friendliness disappeared and we were suddenly spoken to in an aggressive and intimidating way.
We returned the scooter and later that day received messages accusing us of having an accident and damaging the bike, despite us never having had any accident at all. What made the situation terrifying was how quickly it escalated. One message appeared to simply ask about the situation, then only minutes later we were told our passport details and photos had already been passed to police and that “when you get arrested you can call us and we can decide where to go from there.” We were also told it would be “easier” if we paid before police became involved.
As tourists in a foreign country, this was genuinely frightening. We had not even been given a chance to explain ourselves or defend against the accusation before threats involving police and arrest were made. We had limited signal at the time and when the messages finally came through, my hands were literally shaking from fear because we had no idea what could happen to us despite knowing we had done absolutely nothing wrong.
Thankfully, we had video evidence showing the scooter
**responding to owner: the bamboo is from the sled suit you keep the towels. I took a picture to show the colour of the towels. My review is honest. Even the door was broken to the bathroom (which I didn't mention) and many others. My room was number 4 at the end. You know I am right you just don't like that I told my truth.
People were nice. Though I barely conveyed with them. As for the property, I am surprised about the ratings. The only good thing is the location and the price. Extremely outdated, you can see black mould everywhere. Towels are yellow after overuse, sheets not cleaned enough, the room is very dark and only has one light. I tried adding some pictures to show details but it feels they only change sheets, towels and wipe the toilet. I am not expecting luxuries and I don't care if things are old or dated. Bed was not very comfortable as others said (not a problem for me though but had to state it). But this hasn't been thoroughly cleaned in years you can see the accumulated dirt, dust, spider webs and mould everywhere.
I stopped by the eat something light before going to an appointment and the ice tea was gross🤢. The food was ok but overall didn't like it at all . Also, charged me $6 dollars and told me it was 26,000 riel which is more but bad vibes
