We stopped by and had lunch there during our trip from Rathanakiri. The restaurant is quite accommodating, the food and the portion is acceptable but the price is slightly on the high end.

We were massively disappointed with the restaurant. After having some delicious Khmer food in Kampong Cham, in Kratie, we were served cold chips and rice with our loc lak and half a roughly sliced raw onion. The fish must have been cooked hours earlier it was so dry and inedible. To rub salt in the wound we were charged 31 USD, which was more expensive than the delicious food the day before. We learnt the lesson that a high price does not guarantee good food. Neither does seeing the cashier slobbing around in his vest!

Comfortable hotel next to the river with an excellent area on the top floor to watch the sunset and the river. Powerful AC unit that froze me at night but the blanket wasn't very warm so I had to turn it off. Unfortunately I can't say the same about the refrigerator which didn't work at all. This is an old hotel that is still popular with the locals but has some flaws like the non working WiFi in the upstairs rooms. The WiFi works in the restaurant and first floor. They offer laundry service but due to communication problems I didn't get my laundry back for 2 days. The price was accepted at $15 a night for AC room on the top floor and the manager is a very nice guy who speaks very good English. But he's the only one who does speak English so make sure to ask for him. Wasn't the worse place I've ever stayed and with a few improvement can be a great hotel but with the Covid crisis and lack of tourism in the city it's pretty impressive they're still in business at all.

I'll give this place 4 star because of what it is. This hotel is Chinese style, very local, noisy and busy dining area, frequented by lots of local business people and government types. The rooms are clean, high ceilings, heavy Chinese style furniture with massive comfy beds. Simple, but has a real charm. The owner is terrific, he really is responsive. Lovely fresh breakfast and good coffee. I wish we could have stayed longer.

The guy at the front desk (we don't know his name) was very professional and he spoke perfectly English. We were upset about breakfast. Room was very comfy and big. We had a Suite with the view at the last floor of the building and the sunset on the Mekong river was amazing.

Cafés & bakeries 82.3 km 4.5/5 on Google

The Shade Cafe & Car Wash is 82.3 km west of Oudom Sambath Hotel and Restaurant — a short ride rather than a walk.

The Shade Cafe & Car Wash sits in Chamkar Leu District in Kratie, combining a small café operation with a car wash service. Inside, visitors find a modern, air-conditioned space with comfortable seating and a distinctive hut at the back furnished with hammocks. The drink menu centers on coffee and tea, with lattes appearing frequently in visitor accounts. The café also stocks a limited selection of packaged food items, though fresh pastries are sparse.

Visitors consistently praise the coffee quality and the welcoming demeanor of the staff, who have been noted for accommodating requests like providing wifi access. The modern interior and photo-friendly aesthetic draw positive mention, as do the reasonable prices—one visitor recorded a coffee at 6,500 Cambodian Riel. The hammock seating area appeals to those seeking a more relaxed setting. The main reservation most reviewers raise is the lack of fresh baked goods; several note that pastry options are minimal or appear stale, which disappointed those hoping for snacks to accompany their drink.

The café opens daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, making it viable for morning coffee or an afternoon break. It works well as a pit stop for travelers passing through the region, or for locals seeking a modern café space with sturdy tables suitable for working or meeting. Those primarily seeking substantial food should eat elsewhere, but it serves adequately as a drinks stop with basic packaged options.

Visitors order from a selection of pre-made side dishes and can pair their meal with rice and cold beer. The restaurant operates daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Guests consistently describe it as a good local option for the area. The informal atmosphere and ready-made dish selection appeal to visitors seeking straightforward Cambodian food without lengthy waits. Reviews are brief and positive, with no significant complaints noted, though the limited detail in feedback suggests the experience is unpretentious rather than remarkable.

The restaurant works best for travellers comfortable with casual dining and basic Cambodian standards. It suits early risers, as it opens at 6:00 AM, and those looking for a no-fuss meal in a neighbourhood setting rather than a tourist-focused venue.
