About Dary's Village Guesthouse & Restaurant

Dary's Village Guesthouse & Restaurant sits directly on the Mekong in Rokakandal village, 2km from Kratie town centre. Dary Saing, who was born in the village, built the guesthouse in 2023-2024 on a plot bought from her grandmother and opened in August 2024. Everything made from wood — the furniture and the doors — was custom-built by carpenter shops in Rokakandal.

Rooms suit single travellers, couples and families. All have big beds, generous bathrooms and air conditioning. There is a restaurant on site, and the surrounding village lives mainly from fishing and agriculture, so guests see traditional Khmer village life at close range from a modern room.

Dary brings 24 years of hospitality experience: she started at the Santepheap Hotel in Kratie town in 2001, then ran the Lazy Mekong Daze restaurant on the riverside in Kampong Cham for more than ten years before returning home in 2023....

The area

The guesthouse is on Preah Soramorith Quay in Rokakandal village, Kratié 100307, on the bank of the Mekong. Neighbours make their living mainly from fishing and agriculture, and there is a village market beside the property. Kratie town centre is 2km away, reachable on a guesthouse bicycle or moto, by tuk-tuk, or on foot along the river.

Good to know

I had a pleasant stay at Dary’s Guesthouse. It was clean and comfortable. Dary was delightful - happy to share stories and information about her community. The guesthouse is a couple of kms out of the the main town, which is already a harder place to get transport compared to bigger cities in Cambodia, however, Dary was more than happy to arrange tuktuks to and from the accommodation. While the guesthouse is out of the main town of Kratie, the surrounding community is friendly and it’s an easy enough walk into town along the Mekong. Definitely recommend.

We had the best time staying at Dary’s Guesthouse! The rooms are clean and spacious with good AC and hot water. Very comfortable. Dary makes amazing pizza and her mother cooks delicious Khmer food! Dary is a very hospitable host and is happy to help arranging trips, tuktuks and anything you may need. It was very interesting speaking to Dary about her experience growing up in Kratie and how the town has changed over the years. I would reccomend staying at Dary’s to anyone and hope to visit again in the future!

Dary and her family are very friendly and welcoming, and checked us into a very clean and modern room for a night, that even smelled fresh and lovely. We also had lunch there and her mother cooks amazing food, the whole experience was just lovely! She can also help with organising any trips or things you’d like to do whilst visiting Kratié. Definitely would recommend staying here

We originally stayed in Kratie town and moved to Dary's because we wanted a more calm and authentic experience, especially with the village market next to it. We couldn't have been more happy with our decision as not only are her rooms gigantic and the shower pressure fantastic, but she is also such a warm-hearted and open person that it always willing to share her knowledge of Khmer life with you. As it is important for her to support the community, she has great contacts for tours operated by locals which we enjoyed very much. And her mother's cooking is phenomenal - pre-order the Khmer Curry and stuffed gourd! We loved our stay (3 nights) and would have liked to stay longer.

The Shade Cafe & Car Wash

Cafés & bakeries 82.7 km 4.5/5 on Google

The Shade Cafe & Car Wash is 82.7 km west of Dary's Village Guesthouse & Restaurant — a short ride rather than a walk.

The Shade Cafe & Car Wash sits in Chamkar Leu District in Kratie, combining a small café operation with a car wash service. Inside, visitors find a modern, air-conditioned space with comfortable seating and a distinctive hut at the back furnished with hammocks. The drink menu centers on coffee and tea, with lattes appearing frequently in visitor accounts. The café also stocks a limited selection of packaged food items, though fresh pastries are sparse.

Visitors consistently praise the coffee quality and the welcoming demeanor of the staff, who have been noted for accommodating requests like providing wifi access. The modern interior and photo-friendly aesthetic draw positive mention, as do the reasonable prices—one visitor recorded a coffee at 6,500 Cambodian Riel. The hammock seating area appeals to those seeking a more relaxed setting. The main reservation most reviewers raise is the lack of fresh baked goods; several note that pastry options are minimal or appear stale, which disappointed those hoping for snacks to accompany their drink.

The café opens daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, making it viable for morning coffee or an afternoon break. It works well as a pit stop for travelers passing through the region, or for locals seeking a modern café space with sturdy tables suitable for working or meeting. Those primarily seeking substantial food should eat elsewhere, but it serves adequately as a drinks stop with basic packaged options.

Restaurants 82.9 km 4.4/5 on Google

Restaurant 3 Chomnean is 82.9 km west of Dary's Village Guesthouse & Restaurant — a short ride rather than a walk.

Restaurant 3 Chomnean is a casual local establishment in Kratie that serves Cambodian cuisine in an open-air setting. Visitors order from a selection of pre-made side dishes and can pair their meal with rice and cold beer. The restaurant operates daily from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM, making it available for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Guests consistently describe it as a good local option for the area. The informal atmosphere and ready-made dish selection appeal to visitors seeking straightforward Cambodian food without lengthy waits. Reviews are brief and positive, with no significant complaints noted, though the limited detail in feedback suggests the experience is unpretentious rather than remarkable.

The restaurant works best for travellers comfortable with casual dining and basic Cambodian standards. It suits early risers, as it opens at 6:00 AM, and those looking for a no-fuss meal in a neighbourhood setting rather than a tourist-focused venue. Go during regular meal hours to find a good selection of dishes available.
