About DOLPHIN HOME STAY

Dolphin Home Stay is a family-run guest house in Krokor, Kratié, Cambodia. It is a homestay in the literal sense: guests share the household of the owner, Mr Hak, and his wife Eng, and can take part in day-to-day family life as much or as little as they like. Rooms are basic and comfortable, and an air-conditioned room is among the options.

The hosts arrange transport and outings themselves. Pick-up and drop-off at the bus stop can be organised, and Mr Hak runs trips in his tuk tuk — temple visits, dolphin viewing, island trips at sunset, and tours around town. Meals with the family are part of the experience for some guests, as are introductions to friends, relatives and local food.

The guest house suits independent travellers who want a local, family-hosted base in Kratie rather than a hotel, and who are comfortable with simple rooms and a shared household. Bookings can be made direc...

We stayed for 3 nights with Mr Hak and it was great. He welcomed us in as if we were family, had dinner together one night and went on a day tour where he went above and beyond. He made sure we were taken care of throughout our stay, introduced us to friends and family and made our stay lovely. If you are looking for a local homestay this is the place. Thank you very much :)

We had an amazing 2 night stay at Dolphin Homestay. Mr Hak and his family are very sweet and make sure you have a unforgetable stay at Kratie. His two dogs are the cherry on top. Stay here!

Did a direct booking with Mr Hak via whatsapp for the AC room in May. He picked and dropped us at the bus stop. Good, comfortable stay. Went on a temple visit and then dolphins and island visit for sunset in his tuktuk. Ended the evening with a dinner with him and his friend. Real value for money with the stay and the tour he offered.

In three months of traveling across Asia, this was by far the worst place we have stayed. We spent two months in Thailand, one in Laos, and now one in Cambodia, and this was the worst experience of them all. He makes everything seem free at the beginning, only to present you with the bill at the end and get irritated when you are surprised. He also takes you to places where he clearly gets a commission, pushing you to spend money in places where people then also expect tips. Nothing feels genuine. It all feels calculated to make you spend as much as possible. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was that during the day, we could never really get away from him. He kept insisting on staying with us all the time, as if the longer he stayed around us, the more money he could get out of us. Instead of feeling welcomed, we felt pressured and trapped. We stayed in Kratie for two days, and unfortunately this was the absolute low point of our trip. If you are looking for an honest, authentic, and peaceful experience, stay away from this place.

Great experience with an authentic Cambodian Family. Mr.Hak and his wife Eng are such lovely people, very friendly and really helpful with everything. If you're looking for a true Homestay experience in Kratie, this is definitely it. The rooms are basic, but comfortable and there's everything you'll need. You'll live together with the family and get integrated in their daily life if you want. Mr. Hak is well known in the area and will happily show you around in his Tuk Tuk. He even took with to a Cambodian Engagement Party, which was a very unique pleasure for me. I can highly recommend them. You'll have a memorable time for sure. Thank you very much again Mr. Hak and Ms. Eng 🙏🏼

Cafés & bakeries 82.6 km 4.5/5 on Google

The Shade Cafe & Car Wash is 82.6 km west of DOLPHIN HOME STAY — a short ride rather than a walk.

The Shade Cafe & Car Wash sits in Chamkar Leu District in Kratie, combining a small café operation with a car wash service. Inside, visitors find a modern, air-conditioned space with comfortable seating and a distinctive hut at the back furnished with hammocks. The drink menu centers on coffee and tea, with lattes appearing frequently in visitor accounts. The café also stocks a limited selection of packaged food items, though fresh pastries are sparse.

Visitors consistently praise the coffee quality and the welcoming demeanor of the staff, who have been noted for accommodating requests like providing wifi access. The modern interior and photo-friendly aesthetic draw positive mention, as do the reasonable prices—one visitor recorded a coffee at 6,500 Cambodian Riel. The hammock seating area appeals to those seeking a more relaxed setting. The main reservation most reviewers raise is the lack of fresh baked goods; several note that pastry options are minimal or appear stale, which disappointed those hoping for snacks to accompany their drink.

The café opens daily from 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM, making it viable for morning coffee or an afternoon break. It works well as a pit stop for travelers passing through the region, or for locals seeking a modern café space with sturdy tables suitable for working or meeting. Those primarily seeking substantial food should eat elsewhere, but it serves adequately as a drinks stop with basic packaged options.

Guests consistently describe it as a good local option for the area.
