ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa

Fair Trade Village is 313 m north-east of ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa — about 4 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “sights”.

The next two places under “sights” from ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa are Royal Residence (1.6 km) and Made in Cambodia Market (1.9 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Fair Trade Village is a handicraft marketplace in Trang Village, positioned between central Siem Reap and the Angkor archaeological park ticket office. The site displays and sells handmade Cambodian goods across a wide range of categories: hand-woven textiles including kromas, bronze statues, jewellery made from seeds and clay, traditional dancing masks, bamboo items, and paintings created using a traditional palm leaf burning technique. Visitors can walk through the space and observe artisans at work, though accounts of actual production vary.

Visitor responses are mixed. Several travellers praise the variety and quality of craftsmanship, particularly the textile collection, and note that staff are friendly and non-pressuring. However, others describe the site as a tourist-oriented setup where prices run higher than comparable items at local markets, and question whether active production takes place or is performed for visitors. Some find the atmosphere underwhelming and the merchandise dusty or neglected-looking, suggesting limited footfall. The experience appears to depend heavily on expectations: those seeking curated Cambodian handicrafts in one location generally report satisfaction, while those seeking authentic artisan work or competitive pricing often leave disappointed.

The village operates daily from 9am to 6pm. It works best as a morning stop en route to Angkor rather than a dedicated destination, particularly if you are already travelling that direction. The setting suits travellers with specific interest in Cambodian textiles or handicrafts who prefer browsing without haggling, though independent travellers and those on tight budgets may find better value exploring markets closer to the city centre.

Cambodian-Vietnamese War Memorial is 832 m west of ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa — about 10 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “parks & nature”.

The next two places under “parks & nature” from ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa are Royal Independence Gardens (1.5 km) and Flying Foxes (1.5 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

The Cambodian-Vietnamese War Memorial is a small park situated on one of Siem Reap's main roads, dedicated to remembering the historical cooperation and conflicts between the two nations. The site centres on a stone monument with distinctive architectural detail. There is no admission charge, and the space remains open around the clock.

Visitors consistently describe the memorial as a peaceful and quiet spot, even in the midst of the busy city surroundings. The stonework and architectural design draw repeated mention, with several noting that it rewards even a brief stop. Most who visit appreciate the free access and the respectful atmosphere, though some acknowledge there is relatively little to see and do beyond spending five to ten minutes observing the monument itself. The area has local vendors nearby selling food and drinks.

The memorial works best as a short pause during a day spent exploring Siem Reap's other attractions rather than as a destination in itself. Its central location makes it accessible to hotel guests staying nearby. Those interested in Cambodia's recent history may want to combine a visit here with nearby museums; visitors have noted it pairs well with more extensive historical sites in the area. There is no best time to visit given the round-the-clock access, though early morning or evening might offer a quieter experience.

The Cocoon House - Art Gallery, Concept Store, Fashion Vintage and Skate Shop - by Cocoon Limited is 891 m north-west of ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa — about 11 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “museums & galleries”.

The next two places under “museums & galleries” from ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa are The River Gallery (1.7 km) and VIMEAN SOKHA MUSEUM (1.7 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Set inside an old colonial mansion on Sivatha Road, this Siem Reap space mixes an art gallery, a concept store, a vintage fashion corner, and a skate shop under one roof. Visitors find contemporary artwork alongside Asian and European antiques, film photography, own-brand clothing, and skateboarding gear, with pieces ranging from affordable finds to higher-value collectibles.

Guests consistently describe the atmosphere as unusual and inviting, crediting the family behind it, a mother and son, for making the visit personal rather than transactional. Several reviewers mention staff by name, noting they take time to explain the history of the collection and the story behind the shop, and even offer tips on where to eat or find good coffee nearby. More than one visitor calls it the best skate shop they have encountered, and the vintage and antique pieces get particular praise for being well curated and, in some cases, surprisingly reasonably priced. No real criticisms surface in the reviews.

The house is closed on Tuesdays, and on other days it operates in two blocks, roughly mid-morning to early afternoon and then again from early afternoon into the evening, so it is worth timing a visit around that split. It suits travellers who enjoy browsing rather than a quick in-and-out stop, since much of the appeal comes from the stories attached to individual pieces and from the chance to talk with the people running it. It works equally well for someone hunting a vintage watch, a piece of art, or simply a skate shop with more personality than stock.

Aum Yoga Center, Siem Reap, Cambodia is 1.1 km west of ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa — about 14 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “sport & fitness”.

The other place under “sport & fitness” within reach of ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa is MR.LY Gym and Boxing (2.8 km).

Aum Yoga Center sits on the grounds of Angkor Grace in Siem Reap and offers a full studio setup rather than a single yoga room: showers, lockers, a bathroom, drinking water, books and sofas for lingering before or after class. The schedule runs across styles — Hatha, Vinyasa, aerial yoga, aqua yoga and sound-focused sessions that use crystal bowls, chanting or a teacher's voice during shavasana, sometimes from hammocks. The space itself is designed around greenery and natural materials, giving it a calmer, more resort-like feel than a typical studio.

Visitors consistently single out two things: the cleanliness of the facility, down to guests noting their feet stay clean after barefoot practice, and the quality of the teachers, described repeatedly as professional, attentive and patient with beginners. The aerial yoga class comes up often, with newcomers saying the instructors make the inversions feel manageable rather than intimidating. Several guests who took daily morning classes during their stay describe the routine as genuinely energizing, and one mentions considering relocating to Siem Reap partly because of the center. No complaints or caveats surface in the reviews gathered here.

It is open daily from 7:30 in the morning to 7 in the evening, which allows for an early class before sightseeing or a later one to unwind. Given the range of styles offered, it suits both regular practitioners looking to keep a routine going while travelling and first-timers curious about aerial or aqua yoga in a low-pressure setting. Reviewers who attended multiple sessions in a single week suggest it rewards repeat visits rather than a single drop-in, so travellers with a few days in Siem Reap are likely to get the most out of it.

Royal Independence Gardens is 1.5 km south-west of ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa — about 18 minutes on foot. It is among the three closest places to the hotel under “parks & nature”.

The next two places under “parks & nature” from ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa are Cambodian-Vietnamese War Memorial (832 m) and Flying Foxes (1.5 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Royal Independence Gardens is a public park in central Siem Reap, accessible around the clock along National Route 6. Visitors find a landscaped space with historical statues, mature trees, and good lighting that extends into the evening. The Preah Ang Chek Preah Ang Chorm shrine sits within the gardens themselves. The park draws joggers, walkers, and people playing casual sports, and several cafes nearby serve coffee.

Guests consistently describe the gardens as clean and well-maintained, with a peaceful atmosphere suitable for a stroll regardless of the time of day. Many highlight the cultural and spiritual quality of the space, particularly around the shrine. The most distinctive feature visitors mention is the congregation of hundreds of flying foxes hanging in the trees—an unusual sight that recurs across multiple reviews. Some acknowledge the gardens are pleasant rather than exceptional as a destination in themselves, though most find them worthwhile for a visit. The area feels safe to move around in at night when lit, and it works for families, friends, or couples seeking a quiet break.

The gardens are open continuously, making them accessible for early morning walks or evening visits. The site requires no entry fee and works best as a stop during a wider exploration of Siem Reap rather than as a standalone destination. The flying foxes are most active and visible in the early morning and at dusk. Those interested in local history and spiritual sites, or anyone wanting a green space to move through without crowds, will find it suitable; visitors primarily seeking dramatic natural beauty or wildlife encounter may feel it offers less.

Flying Foxes is 1.5 km south-west of ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa — about 19 minutes on foot. It is among the three closest places to the hotel under “parks & nature”.

The next two places under “parks & nature” from ចម្ការវីឡា Chomkar Villa are Cambodian-Vietnamese War Memorial (832 m) and Royal Independence Gardens (1.5 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Flying Foxes is a bat colony in central Siem Reap that roosts in trees within an urban park. These are large bats, comparable in size to small cats, with wingspans that make them distinctive when airborne. The colony remains active throughout the day, though visitors report they are most animated at sunrise and sunset. The site is free to visit and accessible at any time, sitting amid everyday city life—near a temple, vendors, and open to foot traffic and local residents using the space for exercise or recreation.

Visitors consistently emphasize the experience as remarkable and worth multiple visits. Many note the surreal coexistence of the bats with human activity: people playing badminton or doing morning exercises in close proximity while the bats go about their routines undisturbed by noise, music, or crowds. The colony is reliable—reviewers mention returning night after night across visits spanning days or weeks. Some visitors bring drinks and settle in to watch. One caveat: the surrounding area can be loud, with temple drumming and amplified music from nearby venues, though this apparently does not deter the bats. Weather can be unpredictable, and heavy rain sometimes forces early departures.

Sunrise is the optimal time to visit, when the bats are most active and the air is cooler. The site requires no tickets or advance booking. Bring a camera if you wish to photograph them, though their erratic flight patterns make still photography challenging—video may be more practical. The location suits anyone interested in wildlife behavior and natural history, and the free access makes it a low-commitment addition to a Siem Reap itinerary. Plan for the noise and crowds around the site, which are part of the urban context where these bats have chosen to live.
