Location
Pier 52 is a working cargo dock in Preah Sihanouk where visitors catch the slow boat to Koh Rong and Koh Rong Sanloem. The pier itself is functional and unremarkable—a loading point rather than a destination. Boats depart daily in the early afternoon, typically between 2pm and 3:30pm, carrying passengers alongside freight and motorcycles. The journey to Koh Rong takes around two hours, with stops at smaller islands like 4K Beach and Treehouse Bungalows pier before the final destination; travel time extends to three hours with unloading.
Visitors consistently praise the boat as an affordable and authentic way to reach the islands. The cost is low—5 USD per person, or 20,000 riel, with motorcycles at an additional 5 USD. Travellers note that the experience itself, including sunset views and local transport culture, makes the longer journey worthwhile compared to faster alternatives. The main caveat is practical: the pier entrance is unmarked and easy to miss, so you need to walk until you find a man selling tickets. Boats run on flexible timing—schedules advertised as 2pm often depart closer to 3:30pm—and unloading cargo can add significant time, particularly when dropping off at intermediate stops.
Go prepared for a working dock environment with no tourist signage. Arrive around 2pm on the day you want to travel; advance booking is unnecessary. Bring cash in dollars or riel. This suits travellers who value budget over speed and are comfortable with local conditions and loose schedules. It is less suitable for those with tight onward plans or discomfort in unstructured situations.

We caught the supply boat for Koh Rong from here. We weren't too sure to begin with and walked over to Pier 63, nobody spoke English but the boat does go from Pier 52 - the men spent a few hours loading the boat, it is supposed to leave at 2pm but I think it left around 3.30pm and arrived in Koh Rong at around 6pm. We paid towards the end of our boat journey - one of the men asked for the money, we were able to pay in dollars or riel. It was a really interesting journey and we'd definately take this boat again. There were only 6 passengers and lots of cargo.
The pier itself is unremarkable, a couple of food sellers wandered by but there is nothing else there apart from people loading cargo.

Budget Slow Boat to reach Koh Rong or Koh Rong Samloem. It costs 5 USD or 20k Riel. Entrance to the pier is not signposted (see pictures). Keep walking until you find a man selling tickets. Make sure you arrive around 2pm, no need to buy tickets in advance 🎟️
It is advertised that the boat has 3 stops when going to Koh Rong: 4K Beach, Treehouse Bungalows pier and Koh Touch. The boat departed around 2.30pm and arrived at 4K Beach 3h later. Now, it's better to leave the boat here, instead of waiting as we did 🛥️
We waited 1h30 for the boat to be unloaded. It proceeded to the pier close to Treehouse Bungalows, where the captain told us we would need to walk from there to Koh Touch. Our understanding is that if there is no cargo for Koh Touch, it won't go there so keep that in mind. It's not particularly far from there to Koh Touch but it was already night when we finally arrived.

This is the place where you can find cheap parcel boat for the both island 🏝️ Koh Rong & Koh Rong sanloem...
Everyday it starts around 2 and the ticket cost is just $5. It's one of the cheapest way to go to the island otherwise you can pay $14 for speed boat and it will drop you in just 45minutes on the other hand this parcel boat or slow boat takes 2 hour for the Koh Rong sanloem and then next one more hour for Koh Rong......if you asked me then I'll suggest you go for it because you'll be so happy after taking this ride because you'll experience a beautiful Sunset....

Highly recommend, keep an eye out for the yellow "slow boat" sign. Please note that the sign only faces towards Sihanoukville, so if you drive in from another direction make sure to look behind you. This boat is so convenient when you need to bring your scooter or motorbike to Koh Rong, or if you'd just like to experience local transport at its best. $5 per person and $5 per scooter and a great experience. The trip takes 2 hours coast to coast but with unloading time definitely add 1 hour to your travel time
