Emplacement

Caution here for the casual traveler: this delightful Phsa Kraom Market is not designed for most foreigners; it is a true functioning wet market for locals. From dawn until early evening this place is thronged by locals who come to buy their fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, and various delicacies. there are also quite a number of vendors selling prepared foods that provide low cost snacks or entire meals for families. there are very few foods that you cannot find here; the selection is staggering, especially if you arrive earlier in the day. At lunch they close off parts of the inner Market and vendors migrate to the peripheries and onto the side streets.
As with any chaotic large market, it's fun to wander but it's also necessary to keep your wits about you and your valuables tucked away. Floors are often wet and uneven, signs are not in English or French. Smells and flies and levels of

Phsa Kroum Market (also spelled Psah Krom) is a bustling local market in Siem Reap, offering a true taste of everyday Cambodian life. Unlike the more touristy markets in the city, this spot is where locals shop for fresh produce, meats, spices, and street food at affordable prices.
Highlights:
✔️ Authentic Local Experience – This is not a tourist market; you’ll see Cambodians buying groceries, grabbing breakfast, or enjoying a quick snack.
✔️ Delicious Street Food – Try Khmer noodles, grilled meats, fresh fruits, and traditional sweets. The fried bananas (chek chien) and num pang (Cambodian sandwiches) are must-tries!
✔️ Affordable Prices – Much cheaper than markets like Psar Chaa (Old Market), making it great for budget travelers.
✔️ Fresh Produce & Seafood – Vibrant selection of tropical fruits, vegetables, and live fish.

Great local market for tourists and for residents alike. Always a hot cheap snack available, a wide range of fresh meats seafood poultry and other delights such as turtle and snake. Typical market trinkets, cloth, housewares, all cheaper than the central Siem reap market.

Truly local market. A bit chaotic, but
very natural in its own way. The meat and seafood area can be a bit dirty and uncomforting for some people. There are frogs getting skinned live. One frog is still jumping around after that and got chopped into pieces right away.
There are various snacks and small eateries in the market. A fairly exotic experience sitting and eating along with local people.

I have just returned to Siem Reap and had a very good meal at a very basic food shop today. I eat and shop in this market area quite often. It is a bit chaotic and rough but that makes it a true Cambodian experience. Many locals shop here to take the prepared food and vegetables home. Traffic can be fairly heavy and the road has many potholes, so be careful of where you step.
