Location
Samrong Krong Killing Field is a memorial site in Battambang province that bears witness to the violence of the Khmer Rouge era between 1975 and 1979. The site contains a small structure housing remains and bones, with carved inscriptions and information boards documenting the suffering that occurred there. The location is open around the clock and accessible to visitors seeking to understand this period of Cambodian history.
Visitors consistently describe the experience as moving and sobering, with many noting it as an essential historical stop. The site's educational value is widely praised, with information boards providing context about the torture and killings that took place. However, practical concerns emerge across reviews: mosquitoes are a significant issue that can limit how long visitors comfortably spend there, and the site is modest in scale. Entry operates on a donation basis, typically around one dollar, which visitors generally find reasonable and view as contributing to preservation.
This is a place for those prepared for a difficult subject matter rather than a conventional tourist attraction. Morning visits may be preferable to avoid peak mosquito activity later in the day—bring insect repellent. The site suits visitors with a genuine interest in understanding Cambodia's recent history, rather than those seeking uplifting experiences. Allow 30 to 45 minutes, and go with realistic expectations about the scale and conditions; the emotional weight of what the site represents matters more than any physical grandeur.

A place to reflect the harsh reality of Khmer Rouge era. The carvings around the stupor make for somber viewing. Definitely worth visiting.
★★★☆☆
This place is infested with many mosquitoes. It is a small setup and charges US 1 for entry or they called it donation. Inside the small plot, there was a structure containing remains of bones and skulls. There were some boards telling of stories happened during the torture during Khmer rouge period. We could stay long due to mosquitoes bites.

The Killing Fields in Battambang province are an essential stop for those seeking to understand Cambodia's turbulent history.
As a local tourist, this visit was deeply moving, it unearthed emotions tied to the tragic loss experienced during the war.
This site serves as an impactful educational resource, offering a window into Cambodia's past.
The fact that entry is free for everyone is commendable, but leaving a donation feels like a meaningful way to contribute to its preservation.

The Killing Fields are sites in Cambodia where collectively more than 3,000,000 people were killed and buried by the Communist Party of Kampuchea during Khmer Rouge rule from 1975-79. This one is located in Battambang and is a sad reminder of Cambodias cruel and tortured history.
