About tribal village home stay

Tribal Village Home Stay is a small owner-run bungalow property on Street 78 in Krong Ban Lung, Cambodia. The accommodation consists of traditionally built bungalows made of bamboo — a material the owner, Smey, chose so the buildings would not contribute to deforestation. Each bungalow has its own private bathroom, a fan and a mosquito net, and is sized for one or two people. The bungalows stand in a planted garden of jungle plants and flowers.

Meals are cooked on site by Smey and his wife, including breakfast. Smey speaks English and arranges tours and treks in the surrounding area, among them a two-day, one-night jungle trek with a waterfall camp. He works directly with the indigenous community in the national park, and every trek runs with one indigenous guide and one English-speaking guide. Visits to nearby villages and their ethnic groups can also be arranged.

The area

The property is at Street 78, Krong Ban Lung 16451, in a town large enough that the planted garden forms a quiet, green pocket within it. Day trips to surrounding villages and their ethnic groups can be arranged from the property.

Spending a few days in this "village" isn't just about sleeping in a beautiful bungalow in the middle of a lush, flower-filled park; it's about discovering the project behind it and the person, Smey, who carries it out with such courage. Accommodation, meals, treks, visits to villages and their ethnic groups (we loved our day exploring the villages)... all contribute to Smey's funding of his free school for local children. With the help of volunteers who come and go, he strives to enable these underprivileged children to learn English and give them a better future. Smey is a touching, dedicated person who loves his country and wants to make a difference. We loved talking with him, and he taught us so much about Cambodia and its people. So, if you want to have a rich human experience and contribute to this wonderful educational project, come spend a few days with Smey.

This is a really special place. Traditionally built bungalows (each with its own bathroom) set in a beautiful garden. The whole place has been built and is lovingly maintained by Smey, the English speaking owner, who is a wonderful host and will arrange tours and treks in the area. Smey and his wife serve delicious food including breakfast. If you are looking for good value and a more authentic experience than you would get in a grander resort this is the place you should stay. You’ll be supporting a small local business and the on site classroom where Smey gives free English instruction to local kids

Thanks so much to Smey and his family! The bungalow accommodation was really cool, simple, and clean! Smey helped us book our 2 day 1 night jungle trek with waterfall camp and it was honestly so amazing and all the khmer team who joined made it such a special experience! Cannot recommend enough and we will be back for the gibbons next time!

My partner and I stayed one night at the accommodation and we loved how the owner Smey has created a beautiful space with lots of jungle plants, an oasis in a big town like Banlung. The bungalow is made of bamboo (an intentional choice by Smey to not contribute to deforestation) and it is perfect for one to two people, private bathroom, a simple but comfortable room with a mosquito net and fan. Smey helped us set up a jungle trek, he explained that he works directly with the indigenous community in the national park and ensures every trek has one indigenous guide and one English speaking guide so that he is supporting the community directly, we went with Narin and Jok (I may not be spelling their names properly) and both were very kind and we had a good experience. My partner and I are doing a motorcycle journey through SE Asia and we didn’t do enough research and we tried to cross into Vietnam at the Le Thanh border which is about 70 kms from Banlung and we found out we can’t use that border as internationals with an e-visa and we need to go 500 kms back to the border near Kampong Cham. Smey spent all night looking at maps with us and calling people to help us find a van that could take us AND our motorcycle and drive us 40 kms from the border to keep us on schedule to finish our trip in time. He is a very generous and kind person who is doing good in his community, I highly recommend his accommodation and going through him for your jungle trekking.

Cafés & bakeries 358.2 km 4.5/5 on Google

EE-cafe is 358.2 km south-west of tribal village home stay — a short ride rather than a walk.

This countryside café in Kirirom offers coffee in a spacious, clean setting. Visitors find it a peaceful spot with functioning facilities, though it serves drinks rather than food. The atmosphere appeals to those seeking a quiet break in a rural location.

Guests consistently highlight the coffee quality and reasonable prices, along with the cleanliness of the space and toilets. Several mention the peacefulness of the setting. One visitor noted the limitation that food is not served here, only beverages, which is worth knowing if you plan a longer stop. The overall feedback suggests a straightforward, functional café rather than a destination venue.

The café suits travellers passing through Kirirom who want a coffee break without fanfare, or anyone seeking a calm spot away from busier areas. Go expecting coffee and a quiet atmosphere, not a meal or elaborate service. The rural location means it works best as a planned stop rather than a casual drop-in.
