Boeung Chhouk Market is a central wet market in Battambang where locals buy fresh produce, meat, fish, and groceries. The market spans multiple floors and sells everything from live fish and vegetables to clothes and jewellery. Food stalls operate around the edges and in covered areas, particularly serving breakfast dishes like lort cha. The scale and variety mean there is usually something in stock, and prices are set for local shoppers rather than tourists.
Visitors consistently praise the market for its authentic, bustling atmosphere and the quality of fresh goods on display. The best time to visit is early morning, before 8:30 am, when the market is at its most active and the energy is highest. Those who arrived later noted the market becomes quieter as the day progresses. Several visitors mention navigating the crowded aisles can be challenging—people move quickly carrying heavy boxes of produce, so staying aware and moving to the side when needed is practical advice.
The market operates daily from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, making an early morning visit feasible even for those staying elsewhere in the city. It suits anyone wanting to see how Battambang residents shop and eat, or to experience the sensory intensity of a working market. If you are staying locally, breakfast here is worth trying. Arrive with patience for crowds and a tolerance for strong smells and sights that come with any traditional wet market.

Psar Boeung Chhouk was our ‘supermarket’ before Lucky Supermarket came to Battambang. It is a cornucopia of sights and smells. If it has a heart beat and isnt on the protected species list, there’s a good chance you might find it here. It is a proper local market in the heart of the city.
There’s some good breakfast food to be had around the edges and at the undercover area west end of the market. My favourite was lort cha.
If you come to Battambang it is well worth spending an hour or so wandering the market.
The best time to come is in the morning - before 8:30 if you can

Very much a local market with lots of hustle and bustle. Go early morning when it's all happening and venture through rows of fresh veggies and fruit, all sorts of cuts of meat, fish and seafood to feast the eyes. Just try and stay out of the way of everyone carrying heavy boxes of produce as you navigate your way through.

I’ve came by here at different time of the day and can safely say to come before 8.30am to experience the bustling morning market. Live fishes were jumping around in baskets, breakfast meals and fresh produces. Crowded with locals. Let your senses be overwhelmed here.
