Enjoyable stay here, in centre of Koh Kong. Rene's a nice guy, sat and chatted with me whilst we drank his draught beer.
Food was lovely, stuff were lovely. The only small negative was the dead small flies in the room on the floor and sink. And the live ones. Bed was comfy and good A/C. And I would stay here again.
targeting foreigners more than local I guess, we go to stay as local feel a bit unwelcoming (well usually even though we are local we usually stay in place like this for cultural exchange shown in my previous reviews) as other comments suggested food is a bit overpriced. the hot water available but kinda not working (if u try to use it the whole room will get electricity cut off for some reason). room price and location wise that's a good place to stay if you're foreigner older than 35.
We’ve been travelling SE-Asia for 3 months now and this is by FAR the worst accommodation we have stayed in (and not even the cheapest). We were greeted upon arrival by a dead cockroach on the floor of our room and dead flies on the sink. The fridge absolutely stank inside. Electric went out twice in our room during our 1 night stay, and when I asked for help, was made to feel like it was our fault when all we did was turn on the shower. The WiFi was also pretty bad and kept disconnecting.
In the evening of our stay, I tried to have a shower and there was no water. My partner went to reception 3 times and there was no one to help. We couldn’t even flush the toilet, which wouldn’t be that bad if the bathroom roof wasn’t open to the rest of the room. There wasn’t even a drain for the shower, just a hole in the wall for the water to escape.
The walls were filthy, there were cables hanging out the wall.and the draught excluder was hanging off the door.
Only plus was that the bus station was around the corner.
Rene is friendly and service is okay. Rooms were clean and A/C works well. Bed is comfortable but we had some issues trying to understand how the shower works. Sometimes we couldn't be bothered and just had a cold shower. However, there were plenty of mosquitoes 🦟 and we killed a huge cockroach 🪳 in our room. Nothing you can't deal with, specially if you have a mosquito net and bug spray. We would stay again due to the price-quality ratio of the rooms.
The restaurant itself was a no-go for us after the first visit. There are cheaper places around the corner. Rene's dishes are so overpriced! Cheaper main dishes are around 16k Riel (so 4 USD and above). Local restaurants will charge around 2.5 - 3 USD for the same dishes. Besides, food was average, nothing special. Portions were good but dishes were bland. It makes us wonder why they're charging so much for the food. It's clearly aimed at foreigners.
Avoid staying on the rooms towards the left of the building, where the kitchen is located. Otherwise you won't be able to sleep past 7am when the restaurant opens.
This is a review about motorbike rental only.
This is one of the few places in Koh Kong you can rent a motorbike. They have a Honda Scoopy ($7) and Honda Click ($10). The bikes are pretty old and not in fantastic condition. I think the price is quite high for the condition of the bikes, but in Koh Kong you don't have a lot of choice and it's better than nothing.
You have to provide your passport as a deposit to rent. There is no cash deposit option available. I think it's quite inflexible, but again there isn't much competition here so it is what it is.
