If you are looking for an authentic, heart-warming experience with great home-made food and genuine Cambodian hospitality, OBT is the place to be. They offer a stay in comforatble, but basic bungalows with a terrace and an opportunity to get familiar with a fantastic job they are doing at their school and the village. The children were delighted to meet us and communicate with us in English and it was wonderful to meet both the children and their teachers, some of whom were also the students at the same school. In the evening we shared pleasant moments with other travellers during communal dinners with fantastic food and great mood. It is also possible to hire a tuk tuk to visit a bamboo bridge over the Mekong leading to Kaoh Pen island or visit Koh Cham or any other sights youd like to see.
Come and support Sophal and his community and the wonderful work they are doing!
Our stay at OBT was short (too short) but intense. The site itself is truly lovely, with a very welcoming common area where people gather to eat (and the food is delicious) and chat. The bungalows are also beautiful, comfortable, and well-designed. It's also ideally located for exploring the area around Kompong Cham (temples, bamboo bridge) and the magnificent banks of the Mekong River (by scooter, for example).
But what struck us most was discovering the project behind this place: enabling underprivileged children to access a better education, and also supporting their families. We met a dynamic, friendly, and dedicated team of staff and volunteers. We discovered an infrastructure that matches the scale of the project (over 250 children!). We met some of the children, who showed us their work. We were able to talk with some of the teachers. The work that OBT does is remarkable. We regretted not being able to spend more time with them and to be more involved in this vital project.
In short, staying at OBT is much more than just spending a few nights in a beautifully appointed and well-located space; it's primarily about discovering a wonderful project and trying to contribute by donating a little money or some of your time.
Thank you to the entire team for their warm welcome.
OBT is a non profit primary school, which also has self contained bungalows, a restaurant and farm to help fund the school.
The bungalows are very comfortable, there are fans but no air conditioning, however the all-around airflow is good meaning you don’t need the aircon anyway (so we found).
The restaurant is simple, cooking food from their farm for you. Let them know you’d like to have dinner a few hours early and you’ll have a wonderful home cooked meal at 7pm. It was absolutely delicious.
We woke up early to the village roosters and had a great coffee and breakfast at 6:30am at the restaurant before peddling off on our bicycles.
I would highly recommend staying here to support local and get a chance to experience local village life.
I had a wonderful stay at OBT Homestay and Bungalows. This is not a “tourist hotel”, it’s a genuine village homestay surrounded by nature, with an incredibly warm and welcoming community.
What makes it special is the purpose behind it. The NGO/education project gives the stay real meaning. Even in a short time, I felt included and looked after, and I really appreciated the hospitality and the authentic local experience.
If you want comfort and luxury, this is not the place, but if you want something real, kind, and meaningful, I can highly recommend it. I would gladly come back.
This was the perfect beginning to our trip in Cambodia. Anyone who books here should come with an open heart, to meet the incredibly warm people, enjoy the beautiful surroundings, taste delicious food, and truly experience local life. On top of that, you are supporting a meaningful project with children and a wonderful community.
