We stayed a night at the Double Room with Fan. Lovely setting of having a green front garden and a table and chairs to chill out. The room itself is big, clean, and spacious. We hired their motorbike (USD 8 for 24 hours) and no issues at all. Pros: - Located close to the railway station at walking distance. - The city centre is easily accessible by tuktuk. - Local street food stalls close to the guesthouse - Simplicity, peacefulness, and cleanliness of the accommodation.

Definitely worth a stay! Quiet, as it's located out of the main town and off the street. The hosts are friendly, welcoming and happy to help with anything needed. The rooms are spacious and have all the necessary amenities - the rooms are also sprayed with mosquito repellent which as somebody who gets eaten alive, was greatly appreciated! You can also experience the fresh mangoes grown in the garden. They also have a really cute puppy!

Nice quiet location. Motel vibes. Easy grab into town for meals. Hosts can help with buses - we asked for one to Kep which they sorted.

Markets 1.1 km 13 min walk 4.1/5 on Google

Samaki Market is 1.1 km south of My Parents Guest House — about 13 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “markets”.

The other place under “markets” within reach of My Parents Guest House is Kampot Night Market (1.5 km).

Samaki Market is Kampot's main general market, occupying a central location where locals shop for everyday supplies. The stalls spread across the space with distinct sections: fresh produce including tropical fruits like mangosteen, sugar apple, and salak; seafood and meat counters; clothing and textiles; jewelry; and toys. Beyond retail, the market also houses practical services—hair salons, key cutting, and shoe and clothing repair shops. The atmosphere is authentically local rather than tourist-oriented, with vendors setting up from early morning and the space growing busy with tuk tuks and motorbikes.

Visitors consistently praise the market's range and authenticity, noting that you can find nearly everything in one place at local prices. The produce section draws particular attention, especially the fresh tropical fruits available at the north-side kiosks; seafood like crab is noted at around 3-4 USD per kilogram, with cooking services available for 1-3 USD. The main criticism visitors mention is limited parking, which can be frustrating during peak hours. Several reviewers note that the best time to shop is early morning, around 5am after vendors set up, both for the best selection and to avoid produce that has been sitting out.

The market operates daily from 7am to 5pm. It suits visitors looking to shop like locals, eat inexpensively, or source ingredients for self-catering. Early morning is essential if you want the freshest pick and easier navigation, though expect crowded conditions with vehicular traffic during those peak hours. This is a working market for locals first, so it rewards those who arrive prepared and early.

Cafés & bakeries 1.1 km 14 min walk 4.5/5 on Google

Analog coffee is 1.1 km south-west of My Parents Guest House — about 14 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “cafés & bakeries”.

The next two places under “cafés & bakeries” from My Parents Guest House are The Bookshop, Kampot (1.8 km) and Douceurs de Kampot (1.8 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Analog coffee sits on National Road 3 in Kampot and serves espresso drinks, specialty lattes, and cold beverages in a space visitors describe as having a strong vanilla scent and a relaxed local atmosphere. The cafe has functional wifi and air conditioning, making it suitable for working as well as casual visits. The setting appeals to people who enjoy photographing their drinks.

Visitors consistently praise the coffee quality, with several describing it among the best they have had in Kampot. Matcha lattes and charcoal lattes are mentioned specifically. The atmosphere draws repeated compliments for being chill and lovely, and staff are noted for being helpful and speaking English. Prices are described as affordable. The main caution is that cold drinks tend toward the sweeter side, which works well for some but may not suit those preferring less sugar.

The cafe opens daily from 7:00 AM and closes at 6:30 PM, making it accessible for early breakfast or an afternoon stop. It functions well as a morning work spot or a place to spend an hour between activities in Kampot. It suits coffee enthusiasts and anyone seeking a quiet, air-conditioned refuge during the heat of the day.

BaZaar Café & Healing Space

Restaurants 1.2 km 15 min walk 4.9/5 on Google

BaZaar Café & Healing Space is 1.2 km west of My Parents Guest House — about 15 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “restaurants”.

The next two places under “restaurants” from My Parents Guest House are Greenhouse ( restaurant & coffee ) (1.7 km) and Ciao (1.9 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Tucked away in Kampot, this café pairs homemade, health-oriented food with a garden setting at the back, complete with hammocks. The signature order across visits is the Buddha bowl, alongside kefir, mango lassi, tonics, and a chocolate cookie that regulars keep coming back for. Beyond food, the space leans into its "healing" name with offerings like tarot readings, and the overall feel is artistic and calm rather than a quick-stop café.

Guests are consistently enthusiastic about the food quality, describing it as fresh, clearly homemade, and flavourful, with the Buddha bowl mentioned again and again as the reason to visit. The garden seating and hammocks come up repeatedly as a highlight, giving the place a relaxed, unhurried atmosphere that some visitors returned to daily. The one practical gripe is the lack of air conditioning, noticeable on hot days since the space is open-air. Prices are described as higher than typical local spots, though reviewers who mention this generally feel the quality justifies it, and cash-only payment has been noted as well.

This suits travellers looking for a slower, more contemplative meal rather than a fast bite, and it works well for an afternoon of tea and cake as much as a full meal. It is open daily except Sunday, from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM, so it is not an evening dinner option. Given the open-air setup, arriving earlier in the day or in cooler weather may be more comfortable. Bring cash, and if the garden and hammocks are part of the appeal, allow enough time to actually sit and stay rather than just eat and go.

Guests consistently describe the market as clean, small, and charming. The food is mentioned positively for being tasty and affordable. Visitors note it is welcoming to families and children, with several describing it as a good spot to hang out with friends or family. The atmosphere appeals to people seeking an authentic local experience rather than a polished tourist venue. No significant complaints appear in visitor feedback, though the size is acknowledged as modest.

Krong Kampot is 1.6 km south of My Parents Guest House — about 20 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “sights”.

The next two places under “sights” from My Parents Guest House are Farm Link (1.9 km) and Seahorse Statue (2.2 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Krong Kampot is a riverside town in southern Cambodia that has become a growing destination for both local and international visitors. The town sits along the Preaek Tuek Chhu River and serves as a base for exploring the surrounding region, including access to Bokor National Park, pepper farms, and fruit plantations. Visitors find a mix of attractions: colonial-era architecture from the French period, waterfront promenades, boat trips (including evening firefly-watching tours), and fresh seafood restaurants. The town itself operates at a slow pace, with the option to walk through streets with river breezes or explore nearby agricultural areas.

What draws people to Kampot is its unhurried atmosphere and variety of activities within reach. Visitors consistently praise the charm of the old buildings, the relaxed feel of the place, and the quality of local food, particularly the seafood and the region's famous pepper. A pepper farm tour comes recommended by multiple visitors. The riverfront area is noted as pleasant for strolling and watching sunsets. However, some visitors suggest a day or two is sufficient rather than a longer stay, and at least one mentioned that the water quality near the town centre can appear murky. The town is acknowledged as fairly commercial, though this has brought a decent range of restaurants and hotels.

Kampot works best for travellers seeking a quieter stop with cultural and culinary interest rather than a beach resort atmosphere. The pace suits those wanting to rest between busier destinations. The nearby pepper farms and access to Bokor National Park make it useful as a base for day trips. Most visitors see it as a worthwhile detour for one to three days while travelling through southern Cambodia.

The next two places under “restaurants” from My Parents Guest House are BaZaar Café & Healing Space (1.2 km) and Ciao (1.9 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Greenhouse is a small restaurant and café in central Kampot serving traditional Khmer dishes alongside breakfast items and coffee. The space is decorated with colorful walls and art, created and run by the owner. The menu includes curries, noodle dishes, rice plates, and items like granola, pancakes, and toast, with drinks noted as strong and generously poured.

Visitors consistently praise the atmosphere and the owner's friendliness and hospitality. The food quality is described as excellent, with affordable prices and generous portions. Some guests mention the experience of painting their names on a mural wall. However, service can be uneven: food sometimes arrives slowly or at different times within a group, and occasionally items from orders have been missed, though the owner makes quick corrections. One visitor found the 30-minute wait notable.

The restaurant is open Monday through Tuesday only (9 AM to 9 PM or 9:30 PM respectively) and closed the rest of the week, so check hours before visiting. It sits on a quiet street and tends to be quieter during the day. The affordable prices and casual, welcoming atmosphere make it a good fit for travellers wanting an unhurried meal and a chance to meet the owner, though those prioritising fast service should manage expectations.

The next two places under “cafés & bakeries” from My Parents Guest House are Analog coffee (1.1 km) and Douceurs de Kampot (1.8 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

The Bookshop in Kampot is a combined café and bookstore occupying a two-level space on Street 722. Downstairs serves as a café paired with a souvenir section, while upstairs functions as a relaxed reading area. The shop stocks new and second-hand books in English, French, and Khmer, and operates a book exchange service where visitors can swap titles they have brought with them. The outdoor patio faces Street 722 with minimal traffic noise.

Visitors consistently praise the coffee and the friendly staff. The banana bread and red tea latte are specifically mentioned as standouts. The book selection across multiple languages draws repeat visits, and the upstairs seating area is described as a calm spot to read, study, or play games. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. One note: the upstairs books show visible wear from humidity, and new books are wrapped in plastic for protection, though this packaging does not entirely prevent age marks on the stock itself.

The café opens daily from 8 am to 7 pm. It works well for travellers wanting a quiet afternoon with coffee and a read, or those hunting for second-hand English-language books. The book exchange makes it practical for extended stays. The outdoor seating and breeze make late afternoon a popular time. Bring a book to swap if you plan to pick up used titles.
