Excellent Stay at Somadevi Angkor Resort & Spa
I had a wonderful stay at Somadevi Angkor Resort & Spa. It is a lovely 4-star hotel located right in the centre of Siem Reap, with Riverside Night Market, Old Market, and Pub Street all within around a 10-minute walk. The location is very convenient for exploring the city.
A special mention to Mr. Heng from the Front Office, who was extremely warm, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. The entire team was very friendly, attentive, and always ready to assist.
Overall, i had a very pleasant and comfortable experience. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Siem Reap! 🌟
Very high quality hotel, oozing of character. Top notch service. Wonderful breakfast with so much choice. Location is perfect for night market and pub street, also plenty of places to eat including ‘indochina restaurant ’ opposite. Can’t recommend it enough … luxury at reasonable price, got mine through booking.com. Did I mention the relaxing pool and the lunchtime palm cafe for something less informal …. I was there for 9 nights, chambermaid ‘Sea’ worked out my daily pattern and fitted brilliant room
Cleaning everyday to suit!! This is a first choice if you go Siem Reap
The place is spacious and well-decorated. Most of the items in the room are made of wood and the rooms are spacious. They have a pool and gym. Iron and board is available on request and breakfast on the go is also available if ever you want to start early (usually located by main entrance).
Location wise, it's an hour away from the airport (less to no traffic) as most accommodations are. The place is quite close to the local markets (central market/night market). Atm machines and banks are right across the hotel or on the sides (maybank, ABA).
Local eateries right across and sides of hotel are available.
Lastly, the staff are really nice. They always check the guests comfort and ensured that we have a lovely stay in the hotel.
Food Drop Hidden Gem *opposite the hotel*
This isn't just a food review; it's a crazy good travel adventure! Walked into this random spot with zero Khmer skills and no menu. The lady boss just said "steak," so I went with it.
The Plot Twist: A Mandarin-speaking local told me this place is basically exclusive! They usually only do pre-orders and have just two long tables. No walk-ins allowed! I got crazy lucky that the lady boss took me in.
The Local Feast: Ended up crashing with the locals, drinking beers, and trying legit Khmer delicacies. The stuffed frog, eel, and grilled chicken were fantabulous. Totally syok!
The Steak: 10/10 execution! Even with the language barrier, the lady boss cooked a perfect medium-rare steak using local beef. It just proves you don't need fancy Wagyu when the chef has mad skills.
Total serendipity and an absolutely cun (awesome) experience. Sometimes the best meals are the ones you never planned for!
Stayed as part of a tour group. Large property and very professional and polite service. Rooms are maybe slightly dated but big and have everything you need. Loved the robes! Onsite restaurant, cafe, bar etc. Drinks are good and the room service I had was delivered quickly and was really yummy! Main issue for me is the noise - there was a huge group of teenage students staying and they kept me up late hanging around in the corridor outside my room playing music from their rooms (with their room doors open) and laughing/chatting screaming around 11pm. In the morning their classes by the pool woke me up (think the teacher was on loudspeaker?) - also housekeeping starts scraping chairs etc really early so sleep very poor. Big windows without blackouts so sun also affected me. Good air con. Wifi very temperamental. Great breakfast selection. It seems to be used a lot by older group/bus tours like mine and not very diverse or cosmopolitan in terms of guest demographic. Lots of places to eat/drink nearby.
