The owner's brother speaks English and they were both very nice, we got our water bottles refilled and they lend us a water cooker. But the room is very small and was very dirty, the bedding and the bathroom were disgusting. The 12$ are definitely overpriced. The other day we saw two other options in short distance.

The owner forgot to refill the towel also soap, but at least the room was clean. It's a little small but you still can rest peacefully with that reasonable price. It will be hard to find another guesthouse in this area. For my recommendation, you should check everything in room before accept to sleep there.

4/5

The only guest house available in the location. However the owner still in the process of upgrading. The room was not really clean but acceptable.

Restaurants 24.7 km 4.3/5 on Google

Meatophum is 24.7 km north-east of Asean Romeas Guest House — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “restaurants”.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Asean Romeas Guest House are Daddy Daddy Coffee & Bakery (25.0 km) and Yeay Mean Restaurant (26.8 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Meatophum is a restaurant on Asian Highway 1 in Kampong Chhnang serving Khmer cuisine. It is open daily from 6:30 AM to 8:30 PM, making it accessible for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The venue appears to function both as a dining space and what visitors refer to as a farm setting, offering views that feature natural surroundings and organic elements.

Visitors consistently praise the food quality, noting the dishes as delicious and highlighting the authentic Khmer cooking. The setting draws compliments for its views and relaxed atmosphere, which appeals to those seeking a break in a natural environment. Prices are described as reasonable by guests. Service standards are reported positively, as is cleanliness. No major reservations emerge across the reviews, though the feedback base is limited in scope and does not address potential issues like crowds, wait times, or specific dishes to avoid.

The restaurant suits lunch visitors most clearly based on guest comments, though its full opening hours mean it can serve breakfast and dinner too. It works well for travellers wanting an informal meal with views rather than fine dining. The location on the main highway makes it reasonably accessible when passing through Kampong Chhnang, though you may want to check current opening hours before visiting, particularly on Sundays when the listed hours appear incomplete.

Cafés & bakeries 24.8 km 4.4/5 on Google

Amazon Cafe Kampong Chhnang is 24.8 km north-east of Asean Romeas Guest House — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “cafés & bakeries”.

The other place under “cafés & bakeries” within reach of Asean Romeas Guest House is Relax Cafe (25.1 km).

Amazon Cafe Kampong Chhnang is a café inside a service station complex on Highway 1 between Phnom Penh and Battambang. The café itself serves coffee, tea, and drinks in an air-conditioned space. The wider facility includes a petrol station, a Jiffy mart convenience store with snacks and water, and clean restrooms, making it function as a proper rest stop rather than a standalone café.

Visitors consistently praise the cleanliness of the facilities, particularly the bathrooms, which stand out as notably better maintained than other roadside stops in the region. The café staff receive compliments for being friendly, and the drink selection is noted as good. Some guests mention the food tastes well. The main reservation appears to be service speed — one visitor noted it can be slow — and another observed the large space means it can get busy with other customers. One reviewer suggested bringing your own tissues for the toilet despite the generally high standards.

This place suits travellers breaking up a journey on Highway 1, especially those needing a proper rest stop with reliable facilities. It opens from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM most days, with slightly earlier opening on Saturday at 6:30 AM. The combination of fuel, food, shopping, and disabled-accessible bathrooms makes it practical for long-distance drivers or bus passengers needing a proper break rather than a quick pit stop.

Daddy Daddy Coffee & Bakery is 25.0 km north-east of Asean Romeas Guest House — a short ride rather than a walk.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Asean Romeas Guest House are Meatophum (24.7 km) and Yeay Mean Restaurant (26.8 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Daddy Daddy Coffee & Bakery in Kampong Chhnang serves noodle soups and a wider menu than its name suggests. The space is clean and bright with wifi, drawing both breakfast eaters and travellers passing through town. Visitors find noodle dishes featuring chicken, pork, beef, squid and shrimp, along with blood cake, chives, dipping sauces and chili oil. The place opens early at 6 AM daily and stays open until 9 PM, making it accessible for different meal times.

Guests consistently praise the broth and flavour of the noodles. Several visitors mention the pho and noodle soup as standout dishes with tasty, flavorful broths. However, the atmosphere receives mixed responses—some find it a good spot for a quick meal, while others note that noise from children and customers on phones can interfere with any attempt at a quiet breakfast. One regular visitor reported a decline in consistency, noting that a recent visit resulted in undercooked fries that were not adequately corrected when sent back to the kitchen.

The restaurant suits travellers passing through Kampong Chhnang looking for an early breakfast or reliable noodle soup, particularly those craving pho or chicken noodle dishes. It is worth knowing that despite appearing as a coffee shop and bakery in online listings, it operates as a full-service restaurant with a broader menu. If you visit during busy times or with children nearby, expect the dining room to be somewhat noisy.

Cafés & bakeries 25.1 km 4.1/5 on Google

Relax Cafe is 25.1 km north-east of Asean Romeas Guest House — a short ride rather than a walk.

The other place under “cafés & bakeries” within reach of Asean Romeas Guest House is Amazon Cafe Kampong Chhnang (24.8 km).

Relax Cafe sits on Highway 5 in Kampong Chhnang, a straightforward stop that faces Phnom Krang Dey Meas and offers pond-side seating. The cafe opens at 08:00 and serves breakfast and lunch in a setting visitors describe as spacious with parking available. The decor draws comment, though the atmosphere varies—some find it peaceful and quiet, while others note the music can play loudly.

Visitors consistently praise the service and affordable prices, with several mentioning the manager's friendliness and hospitality. The iced coffee receives approval, though breakfast and lunch options are described as heavy and fatty. Morning visits are recommended, partly because the cafe becomes crowded as the day progresses, and partly because early hours offer the quietest experience. The setting itself—with views of the surrounding landscape that shifts between golden fields in the dry season and green during the rains—attracts those seeking a place to unwind rather than rush through.

The cafe works best if you arrive early in the day or plan to stay for sunset. It sits somewhat outside the main city area, which some visitors note as a drawback if you are staying centrally in Kampong Chhnang. This is more a destination for a leisurely morning or afternoon break than a convenient stop between errands.

Yeay Mean Restaurant is a family-run canteen in central Kampong Chhnang serving Khmer home cooking. There is no English menu, but dishes are shown on wall pictures and staff help with choices. The kitchen cooks to order, and portions are generous. Prices are very low; visitors report paying around 7000 KHR for a main dish with rice, or less than 2 USD for a full meal.

Visitors consistently praise the food quality and friendliness of staff. Several guests returned daily during their stay, citing authentic local flavour and freshness. The atmosphere is described as calm and family-oriented. One regular noted the restaurant has not changed in several years and stands out against other options in the city. Service is described as attentive with a smile. The only practical note visitors mention is that the restaurant gets crowded between noon and 1 PM when government employees take lunch, though seating remains available.

The restaurant opens from 6 AM to 8 PM daily, making it suitable for both breakfast and dinner. It suits travellers wanting genuine local food at low cost, and those staying nearby long enough to return. Finding it requires asking directions or using maps, as it is not prominently signed, but this has not deterred repeat visitors. The lack of an English menu is a minor hurdle for non-speakers, though friendly staff will guide you through the wall pictures.

The next two places under “markets” from Asean Romeas Guest House are Smaet Market (27.3 km) and Kampong Chhnang Market (27.9 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Elise Mart is a café-market hybrid in central Kampong Chhnang, occupying a spot that has become established enough to draw regular visitors. The venue functions primarily as a casual meeting space with light refreshments—coffee, iced tea, croissants, pastries, and sandwiches—rather than a traditional market in the produce-and-goods sense. It has comfortable seating suitable for working or socialising, a working WiFi connection, and parking for both cars and motorcycles.

Visitors consistently praise the environment, cleanliness, and facilities. The staff receive regular mention for politeness and helpfulness, even when language barriers exist. Service is described as good, and the spacious parking lot and functional bathroom are points visitors appreciate. Coffee quality, however, divides opinion. Several visitors report that the coffee tastes burnt or has declined from an earlier period, while others find it decent. The practical setup—clean surroundings, reliable WiFi, comfortable seating—makes it work as a place to spend time, regardless of drink quality concerns.

The café operates daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, making it accessible for morning visits or afternoon stops. It suits travellers passing through Kampong Chhnang on Highway 5, particularly those heading south, who want a clean space to work, rest, or meet someone. Go with modest expectations about the coffee but realistic ones about the venue's purpose as a social space. The low price point and functional facilities make it a practical option rather than a destination, but that is what many visitors appear to value.

Guests describe the market as friendly and note good service from vendors. Most comments are positive, though the market is evidently local-focused rather than a major tourist destination.

The market opens at 5:43 PM every day except Sunday and operates until midnight. It suits travellers staying in Kampong Chhnang who want to experience everyday Cambodian commerce and pick up fresh ingredients, rather than those seeking a formal market tour or souvenirs. Arriving after 6 PM ensures the market is in full swing.

Independence Monument - Kampong Chhnang Province is 27.5 km north-east of Asean Romeas Guest House — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “parks & nature”.

The other place under “parks & nature” within reach of Asean Romeas Guest House is Kampong Chhnang City Garden (27.8 km).

This is a public monument and park in Kampong Chhnang town, designed as a local counterpart to the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh. The site consists of the monument itself, surrounding green space, and a paved area that serves as a gathering point for the town. It is open around the clock and accessible to visitors at any time.

Visitors describe it as a pleasant spot for casual time outdoors, popular especially in the evening when families and groups come to relax. The park frequently hosts events and concerts, drawing crowds during celebrations like Khmer New Year. Street food vendors operate in the area, making it a natural stop for eating as well as walking around. Some visitors note that it can become crowded during peak times or special occasions. The monument is noticeably smaller than its Phnom Penh namesake, which is worth knowing if you have seen the original.

The site works best as a casual visit rather than a planned outing, whether you are passing through town or spending an evening locally. It suits families, particularly those with children, and those interested in how Cambodian communities use public space. There is no particular season that makes it better or worse to visit, though evening hours when the temperature cools tend to be busier. The 24-hour opening means you can arrive whenever it suits your schedule.
