We made a last minute booking and we couldn’t have chosen better. Paul and his wife Sophia were very welcoming, showed us around his area, took us for a local breakfast and to see many close by potters. You can tell they enjoy having guests.

Service was great, the owner/co-owner was super friendly but the problem was the room. It was neat and tidy but was also full of dust and gecko droppings 💀 We called at 3pm and came in at 8:30pm, I don’t understand why they couldn’t clean it in advance before we checked it 😔 The shower drain was clogged so we had a flooded bathroom for the 1 night stay but all is good ❤️

Paul is a lovely man who truly finds joy in his project. When I was here, his pottery kiln wasn't yet finished, so the pottery classes he plans to offer weren't available but even for just the accomodation, his place is awesome, with comfortable beds, a kitchen and a lot of geckos to chat with. He knows the locals very well and can tell you about the culture or teach you the vocabulary basics. The village is very small and quiet so it's a very different experience from all the cities. You can see multiple professional potters here and learn how they create their pots. Had a really cool stay here! But beware of the sun!

It’s a small area with “manufacturers” of various types. One man collected palm sugar, another, made pots for cooking foods, and flower pots. You can buy items from them all.

2-3 May 2026. Stayed here for 1 night while moving from Phnom Penh to Battambang while on my backpacking trip to break up my bus drive into 2 pieces. The owner, Paul, is a very nice Aussie who tells you a lot and really helps you to get around and booking your onward tickets. Paul was kind enough to invite me for a dinner with his family and also with the villa manager, Vishut. After that we went to a local festival together. Very friendly, welcoming and warm people. The villa is very much operational even though you can't find it on, e.g., Booking. Just email, message, WhatsApp or call Paul for questions and reservations! Did a pottery class with one of the locals which was super fun. You can do also longer multi-week residencies to learn pottery making. I was planning to go see the floating villages but it was about to start thunderstorming. I had a sofa-bed in the backpacker's dormitory. It's okay for a short stay but for a longer stay I would have taken a private room because they have AC, a private bathroom, and a more comfortable bed. SHUTTLE SERVICE. Paul provides a shuttle service from Phnom Penh to Kampong Chhnang, which I didn't take due to time limitations, but which would be cheaper than a normal bus. ADITTIONALLY, Paul was also very willing to pick me up and drop me off at the bus station without any extra charge. All in all, a super warm and nice stay. And very local and authentic. There's no tourists in the village and I didn't see any in the center of Kam

Cafés & bakeries 1.5 km 19 min walk 4.1/5 on Google

Relax Cafe is 1.5 km north-west of Village Pottery Garden Villa — about 19 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “cafés & bakeries”.

The other place under “cafés & bakeries” within reach of Village Pottery Garden Villa is Amazon Cafe Kampong Chhnang (5.0 km).

Relax Cafe sits on Highway 5 in Kampong Chhnang, a straightforward stop that faces Phnom Krang Dey Meas and offers pond-side seating. The cafe opens at 08:00 and serves breakfast and lunch in a setting visitors describe as spacious with parking available. The decor draws comment, though the atmosphere varies—some find it peaceful and quiet, while others note the music can play loudly.

Visitors consistently praise the service and affordable prices, with several mentioning the manager's friendliness and hospitality. The iced coffee receives approval, though breakfast and lunch options are described as heavy and fatty. Morning visits are recommended, partly because the cafe becomes crowded as the day progresses, and partly because early hours offer the quietest experience. The setting itself—with views of the surrounding landscape that shifts between golden fields in the dry season and green during the rains—attracts those seeking a place to unwind rather than rush through.

The cafe works best if you arrive early in the day or plan to stay for sunset. It sits somewhat outside the main city area, which some visitors note as a drawback if you are staying centrally in Kampong Chhnang. This is more a destination for a leisurely morning or afternoon break than a convenient stop between errands.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Village Pottery Garden Villa are Daddy Daddy Coffee & Bakery (4.9 km) and Meatophum (5.1 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

The kitchen cooks to order, and portions are generous. Prices are very low; visitors report paying around 7000 KHR for a main dish with rice, or less than 2 USD for a full meal.

Visitors consistently praise the food quality and friendliness of staff. Several guests returned daily during their stay, citing authentic local flavour and freshness. The atmosphere is described as calm and family-oriented. One regular noted the restaurant has not changed in several years and stands out against other options in the city. Service is described as attentive with a smile. The only practical note visitors mention is that the restaurant gets crowded between noon and 1 PM when government employees take lunch, though seating remains available.

The restaurant opens from 6 AM to 8 PM daily, making it suitable for both breakfast and dinner. It suits travellers wanting genuine local food at low cost, and those staying nearby long enough to return. Finding it requires asking directions or using maps, as it is not prominently signed, but this has not deterred repeat visitors. The lack of an English menu is a minor hurdle for non-speakers, though friendly staff will guide you through the wall pictures.

Independence Monument - Kampong Chhnang Province is 4.0 km east of Village Pottery Garden Villa — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “parks & nature”.

The other place under “parks & nature” within reach of Village Pottery Garden Villa is Kampong Chhnang City Garden (4.1 km).

This is a public monument and park in Kampong Chhnang town, designed as a local counterpart to the Independence Monument in Phnom Penh. The site consists of the monument itself, surrounding green space, and a paved area that serves as a gathering point for the town. It is open around the clock and accessible to visitors at any time.

Visitors describe it as a pleasant spot for casual time outdoors, popular especially in the evening when families and groups come to relax. The park frequently hosts events and concerts, drawing crowds during celebrations like Khmer New Year. Street food vendors operate in the area, making it a natural stop for eating as well as walking around. Some visitors note that it can become crowded during peak times or special occasions. The monument is noticeably smaller than its Phnom Penh namesake, which is worth knowing if you have seen the original.

The site works best as a casual visit rather than a planned outing, whether you are passing through town or spending an evening locally. It suits families, particularly those with children, and those interested in how Cambodian communities use public space. There is no particular season that makes it better or worse to visit, though evening hours when the temperature cools tend to be busier. The 24-hour opening means you can arrive whenever it suits your schedule.

Kampong Chhnang Market is a working market in the provincial town of Kampong Chhnang, about an hour north of Phnom Penh. The stalls sell fresh produce, meat, fish, vegetables and packaged goods, with a mix of local and imported items, particularly from Vietnam. It operates daily from early morning until evening, opening at 6 AM most days. The layout is typical of Cambodian provincial markets — densely packed vendor stalls and sections devoted to different categories of goods.

Visitors report mixed experiences. Those looking for everyday shopping find good prices and say vendors are friendly and stock what you need. Some note the market appears reasonably clean and organised. However, others describe the fish and meat sections as dirty and pungent, with sanitation concerns. The market has no price tags, which means negotiating with vendors is necessary. Several reviewers note it caters primarily to local Khmer shoppers rather than tourists, and some find the crowded, confined layout uncomfortable.

The best time to visit is early morning when stock is freshest and crowds lighter. If you're staying in Kampong Chhnang or passing through, this is where locals buy groceries — useful if you're self-catering or seeking authentic local produce. Be prepared to bargain, bring small bills, and have a high tolerance for busy, working market conditions. It's not a sanitised tourist attraction, and the fish section in particular may not suit those sensitive to strong smells.

The next two places under “markets” from Village Pottery Garden Villa are Smaet Market (2.7 km) and Kampong Chhnang Market (4.2 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Elise Mart is a café-market hybrid in central Kampong Chhnang, occupying a spot that has become established enough to draw regular visitors. The venue functions primarily as a casual meeting space with light refreshments—coffee, iced tea, croissants, pastries, and sandwiches—rather than a traditional market in the produce-and-goods sense. It has comfortable seating suitable for working or socialising, a working WiFi connection, and parking for both cars and motorcycles.

Visitors consistently praise the environment, cleanliness, and facilities. The staff receive regular mention for politeness and helpfulness, even when language barriers exist. Service is described as good, and the spacious parking lot and functional bathroom are points visitors appreciate. Coffee quality, however, divides opinion. Several visitors report that the coffee tastes burnt or has declined from an earlier period, while others find it decent. The practical setup—clean surroundings, reliable WiFi, comfortable seating—makes it work as a place to spend time, regardless of drink quality concerns.

The café operates daily from 6:00 AM to 6:00 PM, making it accessible for morning visits or afternoon stops. It suits travellers passing through Kampong Chhnang on Highway 5, particularly those heading south, who want a clean space to work, rest, or meet someone. Go with modest expectations about the coffee but realistic ones about the venue's purpose as a social space. The low price point and functional facilities make it a practical option rather than a destination, but that is what many visitors appear to value.

Daddy Daddy Coffee & Bakery in Kampong Chhnang serves noodle soups and a wider menu than its name suggests. The space is clean and bright with wifi, drawing both breakfast eaters and travellers passing through town. Visitors find noodle dishes featuring chicken, pork, beef, squid and shrimp, along with blood cake, chives, dipping sauces and chili oil. The place opens early at 6 AM daily and stays open until 9 PM, making it accessible for different meal times.

Guests consistently praise the broth and flavour of the noodles. Several visitors mention the pho and noodle soup as standout dishes with tasty, flavorful broths. However, the atmosphere receives mixed responses—some find it a good spot for a quick meal, while others note that noise from children and customers on phones can interfere with any attempt at a quiet breakfast. One regular visitor reported a decline in consistency, noting that a recent visit resulted in undercooked fries that were not adequately corrected when sent back to the kitchen.

The restaurant suits travellers passing through Kampong Chhnang looking for an early breakfast or reliable noodle soup, particularly those craving pho or chicken noodle dishes. It is worth knowing that despite appearing as a coffee shop and bakery in online listings, it operates as a full-service restaurant with a broader menu. If you visit during busy times or with children nearby, expect the dining room to be somewhat noisy.
