Location
Northern Library is a restored Angkorian structure located within the Angkor Wat archaeological park in Siem Reap. Dating to the second half of the 10th century in the Banteay Srei style, the building was reconstructed by Japanese conservation experts. The library faces west towards the main entrance and remains an accessible part of the temple grounds, allowing visitors to walk through and examine its architecture up close.
Visitors consistently note the library's value as a quieter alternative to the main temple structures. Several mention using it as shelter during rain and appreciating the chance to observe monastic activity within the building. The site draws photographers, particularly during certain months between October and March when the structure aligns with sunrise views over Angkor Wat, though visitors warn that crowd-chasing for these shots may not require entering the temple itself. The location near small food stalls adds practical convenience to a visit.
The library is open daily from 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM, accessible as part of any Angkor Wat exploration. It suits visitors who want to move beyond the main temple crowds and understand the broader architectural heritage of the complex. Most find it worthwhile as a secondary stop rather than a destination in itself, particularly for those with multiple visits to Angkor Wat already completed.

Although I have been to Angkor Wat many times and passed by this library just as many times. I never entered it until I was caught in a rainstorm. While waiting for the rain to subside I noticed a monk doing what must have been repeated countless times over the centuries. I highly recommend to people around the world should come to visit Cambodia.

One of the many structures that can be seen while exploring the grounds of Angkor Wat. This North Library was restored by Japanese conservation experts. You can enter, walk through and enjoy the architecture thoroughly as part of your Angkor Wat experience. The library faces the West Entrance and is near a collection of small eateries.

From October until March we are waiting at the north side Pool or Library because we could see the ☀️ sunrise closer and behind the Angkor wat Tower, 92 days the sun at the right building so we are the left ◀️ . Anyway avoid crowded people 🤪 some time just waiting for sun outside of the moat no need to entering at temples as pictures below 👇. Thanks 😊
