Horng is an excellent host - even from before you arrive she makes you feel like someone's looking out for you in Ratanakiri. From sending a tuktuk to pick us up from the bus station, to sharing information about local life over dinner, to sending a friend to get us from town when we couldn't find any transport, we cannot fault her as a host, and a lovely person. The treehouses themselves are very cute, and a great way to feel closer to nature without actually camping. They have everything you need including mosquito nets, a fan and a shower and allow for beautiful views of the sunrise (followed by one o Horng's delicious breakfasts!). If you're looking for a quiet and heartwarming stay in Ban Lung, definitely stay here!

We stayed at Tree Lodge for two nights total. It was one of our most treasured experiences in Cambodia. The family was very accommodating and welcomed us into their home for meals. The bungalow was clean with a great view of Ban Lung. We highly recommend this place, and won't forget it any time soon.

Such a beautiful atmosphere and so lovely people! It was definitely our best experience in Banlung. The food is great, the girls are so kind and helpful. They helped us so much with all the transport arrangements through our journey. Even though we stayed there only for night, as the rooms were booked, we were having dinner every night with the family. We wish we had stayed for more!

The best thing we decided to do in Cambodia was choosing to stay here. We were made to feel like a neighbour or friend of the nice couple who run the lodge. We enjoyed two evenings having meals here and also enjoyed two tasty and healthy breakfasts here. The rooms were comfortable, clean and with fresh linen. The mattresses were soft & comfortable. The couple who run the place (Kimi & Hoang) were so welcoming and involved us in their conversations each evening and checked in on us regularly to make sure we had all that we needed. This family have a great level of English and make communication very easy. The owner was able to help us out with Tuk tuks , pick ups & also with purchasing tickets for ongoing travel. Beautiful view from the room , overlooking the jungle plants and the roadway. The most authentic homestay we have stayed at so far. This couple also employ another family who help out with treks through the jungle and with the cooking of meals. It is really great to see the money from your stay supporting these two young local families.

Best place in town!!! We had a great time. Staying here is like staying with family! There are puppies, cats, kids and just a feeling of home. We could choose to eat together with the family in the evening, a choice we never regretted. Real good local food, always different always made with love! Speaking of food: The best pancake breakfast in Cambodia!!! We also booked a trekking tour with them - highland Tours! Ecotourism at its best, working together with the locals and indigenous people. We went into the jungle with a Khmer guide - who speaks great English and was full of interesting knowledge about the jungle, the plants, the animals and the people - and an indigenous trekker and were invited in his village later and stayed with a lovely family. A dream stay all together and one of our best experiences in Cambodia

Katieng Waterfall

Sights 8.0 km 4.3/5 on Google

Katieng Waterfall is 8.0 km south of Tree Lodge — a short ride rather than a walk.

Katieng Waterfall is a cascade in the countryside near Banlung, set within a small park that remains quieter than other waterfalls in the region. Visitors find a tiered drop with a cave running in a crescent shape beneath it, accessible by a steep trail with old stairs and slippery rocks. A heart-shaped lookout point serves as a photo spot. The base of the falls holds a pool deep enough for swimming, and a cave area provides shelter to rest and cool off.

The waterfall attracts consistent praise for its natural appeal and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors emphasize how deserted it feels compared to busier local attractions, and many mention the pleasant experience of swimming in the pool or exploring the cave underneath the cascade. The park charges a nominal entry fee (reported as one dollar for foreigners) and vendors nearby sell refreshments including sugarcane juice. A note of caution appears in reviews about the slippery rocks and uneven terrain—the trail requires careful footing, and at least one visitor raised concerns about potential snakes. The waterfall location is also home to an elephant trek operated by local handlers; opinions on this activity vary, with some visitors noting the elephants are chained but have forest space to roam.

The site is accessible year-round with no specific opening hours restrictions. Plan for roughly 30 to 45 minutes travel from Banlung city centre, though roads can be confusing and mobile signal is unreliable in the area. Asking locals for directions is advisable if uncertain. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for the rocky terrain and bring a change of clothes if you intend to swim. It suits visitors seeking a quiet natural setting away from crowded attractions, though those uncomfortable with wet and uneven surfaces should consider the physical demands before visiting.
