Chainsaw Elephant is a sculpture standing about 2.8 metres tall in Sen Monorom, made entirely from old chainsaws. The monument was created from chainsaws confiscated during enforcement operations against illegal logging in the Mondulkiri Province wildlife sanctuary. Beyond its distinctive appearance, the piece carries a message about forest conservation and the elephants that depend on the region's dense woodland, which faces ongoing deforestation.

Visitors consistently respond to both the technical and conceptual sides of the work. Many note the craftsmanship evident in how the chainsaws have been assembled into an animal form, and several mention appreciating the story behind it—the connection between the tools of illegal logging and the symbol of the forest they damaged. The statue's steampunk-like aesthetic appeals to those drawn to unusual public art. The underlying conservation message resonates with visitors, who understand the work as a statement about protecting Mondulkiri's forest and its wildlife.

The sculpture is located on a street in Sen Monorom town and is easily accessible. It functions as a roadside monument rather than a ticketed attraction, so there are no opening hours to check. The site works best as a stop while exploring Mondulkiri Province if you have an interest in environmental art or local conservation efforts. It takes only a few minutes to view, but the context—learning about the illegal logging crackdown and what the work represents—adds depth to the visit.

Chantha Sreypich Guesthouse & Restaurant is 4.3 km south-west of Terre de Lumière - Land of Light — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “restaurants”.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Terre de Lumière - Land of Light are Restaurant Khropenphon (4.4 km) and Leur Banh Chao & Duck Egg (4.5 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Chantha Sreypich is a guesthouse and restaurant in Sen Monorom's town centre, operating daily from 7 AM to 10 PM. The restaurant serves Cambodian dishes including kuy teav and pork rice. The guesthouse part is described by visitors as very basic, with rooms featuring incomplete walls that allow sound to travel between spaces, and some lacking windows or natural light. A rooftop area with views and seating is available to guests and diners.

Visitors report mixed experiences with pricing. Some found the restaurant good value and praised the owner's effort — one guest noted she roasts her own coffee beans and cooks everything from scratch, delivering authentic flavours. Others felt overcharged, citing a pork rice dish at USD 2.50 as disproportionately expensive for what was served, and flagged concerns about price differences for foreign visitors. The owner is consistently described as friendly and English-speaking. Complaints centre on noise from neighbouring loudspeakers that disrupts both the rooftop and sleeping areas, and the basic bathroom facilities. The rooftop itself draws repeated mention as pleasant and a useful place to escape the daytime heat.

The restaurant suits travellers seeking inexpensive local Cambodian food rather than fine dining. If considering a room, expect minimal comfort — fan-cooled dorms start around USD 5 and private rooms from USD 8, though noise issues and limited natural light are real factors. Come prepared for a spartan setup and potential sound disturbance. The friendly owner and working coffee farm add character if you value that over amenities. Best for backpackers on tight budgets or visitors focused on eating cheaply in town.

ELIE & The Elephant Valley Project is a forest sanctuary in Sen Monorom dedicated to caring for retired working elephants. Visitors come to observe the animals in their woodland habitat through guided experiences that combine wildlife observation with light jungle trekking. The facility operates from a basecamp where overnight guests are accommodated. The project does not permit riding, bathing, or direct contact with elephants; instead, visitors maintain respectful distance while watching them move through the forest with their mahouts, the traditional keepers who manage them.

Visitors consistently praise the ethical approach to elephant welfare. Multiple reviews highlight that the sanctuary prioritises the animals' wellbeing by avoiding exploitative practices common at other facilities in the region. Guides receive particular mention for their knowledge and passion, especially regarding both elephants and the broader forest ecosystem. Guests who stayed overnight reported that the extended experience provided deeper insight into individual elephant personalities and allowed better observation. The basecamp food and hospitality are noted as genuine and well-prepared. Some visitors mention secondary activities like waterfall swimming and participation in conservation work such as planting bamboo for elephant feed.

The site is closed on Saturdays but operates seven days otherwise, opening at 7:00 AM on weekdays and 7:30 AM on Sundays. Visits must be pre-booked in advance. The overnight two or three-day options are frequently recommended by past visitors over single-day trips. The experience suits visitors interested in wildlife and conservation over activity-focused tourism, and those willing to travel distance for substantive engagement with the subject.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Terre de Lumière - Land of Light are Chantha Sreypich Guesthouse & Restaurant (4.3 km) and Restaurant Khropenphon (4.4 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Angkor Forest is a guesthouse and restaurant in Sen Monorom, set back from the town centre on a road that requires a vehicle with good clearance. The property emphasises a quiet environment with clean grounds and a distinctive kiosk structure built around a single tree trunk. Visitors find the setting calm and peaceful, typical of what Mondulkiri offers those seeking a retreat from busier towns.

Guests consistently praise the cleanliness and tranquil atmosphere. The location away from central Sen Monorom is presented as both an asset—for those wanting isolation—and a practical consideration, as the access road is rough and bumpy. The main reservation visitors mention is the lack of hot water in the showers, which several reviewers note as a significant gap given the cool climate of the region. One guest also remarked that food prices are higher than expected, though this view was not echoed widely in other reviews.

The restaurant opens from 7 AM to 9:30 PM daily. The property works best for travellers with their own transport, as the remote location and road conditions make casual access difficult. It suits visitors prioritising peace and a clean environment over convenience or modern amenities, and those planning to spend at least a night rather than eat and leave. The lack of hot water means it is less comfortable during cooler months.
