Spicy 23 Hostel is a family-run place to stay on Koh Rong Samloem, at 4 Community Way in Cambodia's Preah Sihanouk province, in the M'Pai part of the island. It is run by a Thai-Cambodian couple and their family, and it sits back from the path rather than fronting it, so it is easy to walk past. Alongside the accommodation, the property has its own restaurant and bar.
The kitchen leans vegetarian: there are several meat-free dishes on the menu, tofu among them, and almost anything can be prepared vegan on request. Fried tofu and eggplant are two of the plates served, Khmer dishes such as lok lak are cooked here as well, and when a fresh catch comes in, such as king mackerel, it goes on as a special. The bar mixes cocktails and plays music.

The hostel is at 4 Community Way on Koh Rong Samloem, in Cambodia's Preah Sihanouk province, in the M'Pai part of the island. Travel to and from this stretch of coast is by boat, and the hosts have arranged boat taxis for guests. The surrounding water is used for snorkelling and diving, and one of the owners dives and gives advice on where to go.

The restaurant and bar are on the property and also serve people who are not staying overnight. Most dishes can be made vegan on request, and several vegetarian options, including tofu, are on the menu. Staff and hosts speak English, and they have helped guests arrange boat taxis.
Our favourite restaurant on the island - we went there three nights in a row. It’s particularly good for vegetarians hence why we kept going back!
Run by a lovely Thai/Cambodian couple and in a really nice setting. And very reasonably priced!
If you’re looking for vegetarian food in M’Pai, this is the place to go!
They offer several vegetarian dishes, including options with tofu. Almost every dish can also be made vegan!
We had the eggplant and the fried tofu, and both were delicious.
The place has a really chill, relaxed vibe.
On top of that, the owner was incredibly kind and attentive. She even helped us arrange a boat taxi.
Highly recommended!
Had our best dinner on Koh Rong Sanloem at this cozy place. Almost hidden from the outside, the seating area of the restaurant is beautifully set up and the bar (which plays good music) looks impressive.
The restaurant is run by a lovely family, the server spoke English flawlessly. We were fortunate enough to get a special dinner because they had been supplied with a freshly caught king mackerel. Super tasty! Cocktails also amazing
We ate dinner here and everything we ate was so so delicious! My husband has still been trying to find a lak lak sauce as good anywhere else in Cambodia!
Also the owners could not have been nicer. Pong (I hope I got that right) is a diver and gave us great snorkeling advice and shared some of his terrific sea life photos.
We didn't know it was also a hostel, but you would certainly have excellent hosts if you stayed there!
