The resort has one room with air conditioning and a mini-fridge; other rooms are naturally cooled bungalows. Guests should expect a rustic setting with potential ant presence in rooms. Water taxis are available if guests prefer not to walk to nearby beaches and attractions.
We stayed here for 4 nights and we were well looked after. The staff are absolutely incredible and kind! The breakfast was amazing with good choices, fresh fruit and a smoothie, something we have not experienced until our stay. The dinner was also fab, we had it every night! The busier area is about a 25/30 minute walk away on the beach which we really enjoyed doing, the resort have water taxis too (if preferred). It is evident the staff look after the property which is really nice to see.
My partner & I had a wonderful stay at the Samloem Laguna Resort. The resort offered us some much needed peace & tranquility after weeks of bag packing south east Asia. The food was delicious - cudos to the talented chef! Great happy hr offers… props to the lovely bar staff on both the morning/ evening shifts.
We enjoyed a sweaty game of tennis at the resort & made good use of the communal games / book section. The owner organised a boat tour from the resort to other parts of the island which included actives such as snorkelling & fishing! we ended up extending our stay to 1 extra night due to how much we were enjoying ourselves. The owner was very helpful and accommodating when we requested to book a tour and extend our stay.
We found the 5-10 min walk to beach / pier very doable but if you don’t like walking you may find it difficult. Jfyi as an alternative the resort provides a taxi boat service with a charge attached.
Overall we have very fond memories of our time at the SL resort and would happily return!!
I ordered the pasta arrabbiata as I am vegetarian however after waiting an hour it disappointingly came with chicken in it. I asked for it to be remade fresh without meat yet when I got it back less than 5 minutes later, there were still small chunks of chicken inside, I noticed this after already eating a few bites. It looks as if they scraped off the chicken and added cheese to cover up for this (cheese wasn’t even listed as an ingredient). This was especially shocking as we were reassured it was freshly made without meat and safe for me to eat.
I was offered a dessert as compensation, I couldn’t eat anything else due to feeling ill after consuming meat as I have been vegetarian for a while. The manager told us that the kitchen was overwhelmed yet when we were seated there was only one other table. I understand mistakes happen however I do not expect to be lied to about what my meal is containing when I have dietary requirements. Luckily I didn’t have an allergy, God forbid!
Hopefully this is taken on board and steps are taken to avoid this in the future… Asides from this, the hotel is beautiful and in a great location, staff were friendly and breakfast was great.
Pros-
Beautiful views and friendly staff. The chef is Cambodian and all the other workers we saw were foreigners. The owner is also foreign and hangs around the property. You can tell he takes pride in keeping the place clean, maintained and as eco-friendly as possible. They use solar panels and have their own water filtration system.
Rooms feel very private and have reflective coating on the windows so you can see out but people can’t see in, and it keeps the room cool too. Only one room has an AC and mini fridge so they don’t advertise this, but if you book direct you may be able to get it. It’s villa 2.
We actually didn’t use or need the AC because the rooms are in the shade and the reflective coating on the windows keeps it very cool. We only used the fan and were very comfortable.
They have their own filtered water so you can fill your bottle up at reception.
Breakfast was included in our room and you could choose one thing off the menu- omelette, fried eggs with toast, pancakes or muesli and it all comes with coffee, tea and the smoothie of the day. Portions are big and it’s delicious!
Dinner was equally delicious and fresh…portions are big!
The bar has happy hour specials all day - buy-one-get-one-free for certain drinks and all prices are reasonable and standard for the island…$1.50 - $2 beers and $5 cocktails. There is a 7% service charge added to all bills so keep that in mind with menu prices.
They have the strongest WiFi we had on the island and it’s free!
For those who like quiet and nature. Bungalow is a bit rustic and expect ants and in your room. You will need to walk about 15 minutes to Soon Noeng Resort to swim on nice sandy beach with clear water.
