Beautiful guesthouse & nice trek. The family is extremely friendly and welcoming. Good food and nice atmosphere as we have dinner with the family. The lady is so nice and helpful, she also booked the bus to Preah Vihear for us. Definately recommended. Thanks again

- this review is only about the trekking activity - We took part in a 3 days 2 night trek with this homestay as organizer. The staff was composed of Mr SMEY and a ranger from the Kachok minority. Smey was an excellent guide, funny, experienced and ensuring safety all along. Him and the ranger provided excellent food for every meal and helped us everytime we needed. The trek in itself was very impressive in the jungle with several spots where we had swimming and resting. While it is a tourist-friendly tour, please do not go unprepared as it is physically and mentally demanding. The jungle environment can be hostile and you must be strong enough to carry your stuff and keep walking for 3 days. Otherwise it is a unique and unmatchable experience in Cambodia.

Rooms good for the price! Service was brilliant. The owner really did a lot to make our stay nice! Moto rented from her was very convenient, food is available and her cooking was delicious. She can organise onward travel, set up trekking tours etc. location is pretty good. On the outskirts of the city with easy access to the town and the countryside. I was really happy with everything.

Real homestay family owned! Mr T and Ney are very welcoming hosts, and their 3 kids are very cute! All of them speak a good English (Ney also take English lessons for the neighbour kids), they offer dorms, double bungalows and family bungalow at very fair price, you can also join family dinner and have first breakfast for a fair price too. The bathroom is basic (no hot water and flush toilet) but does its job! They pay good attention to reduce the plastic use and offer free water refills! The location is just outside the town, in a rural and authentic context. Overall a good place to stay!

Definitely one of the best places I’ve stayed in shout east Asia! All the family is super caring and welcoming, family dinner for 2,50$! Plenty of food and delicious! The place it’s really cousy, can rent scooters, book buses to the main spots in Cambodia, etc. Did the 3 day trekking in the jungle, definitely one of the highlights of my trip! Really well organised!

Sights 5.6 km 4.3/5 on Google

Katieng Waterfall is 5.6 km south of Ratanakiri Homestay — a short ride rather than a walk.

Katieng Waterfall is a cascade in the countryside near Banlung, set within a small park that remains quieter than other waterfalls in the region. Visitors find a tiered drop with a cave running in a crescent shape beneath it, accessible by a steep trail with old stairs and slippery rocks. A heart-shaped lookout point serves as a photo spot. The base of the falls holds a pool deep enough for swimming, and a cave area provides shelter to rest and cool off.

The waterfall attracts consistent praise for its natural appeal and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors emphasize how deserted it feels compared to busier local attractions, and many mention the pleasant experience of swimming in the pool or exploring the cave underneath the cascade. The park charges a nominal entry fee (reported as one dollar for foreigners) and vendors nearby sell refreshments including sugarcane juice. A note of caution appears in reviews about the slippery rocks and uneven terrain—the trail requires careful footing, and at least one visitor raised concerns about potential snakes. The waterfall location is also home to an elephant trek operated by local handlers; opinions on this activity vary, with some visitors noting the elephants are chained but have forest space to roam.

The site is accessible year-round with no specific opening hours restrictions. Plan for roughly 30 to 45 minutes travel from Banlung city centre, though roads can be confusing and mobile signal is unreliable in the area. Asking locals for directions is advisable if uncertain. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for the rocky terrain and bring a change of clothes if you intend to swim. It suits visitors seeking a quiet natural setting away from crowded attractions, though those uncomfortable with wet and uneven surfaces should consider the physical demands before visiting.
