Princess Guest House

Today Coffee is 180 m south-west of Princess Guest House — about 2 minutes on foot.

Today Coffee sits on Preah Bat Ang Duong in central Kampong Cham, offering a modern, air-conditioned space to work or linger over a drink. The cafe serves coffee, snacks, and ice cream, with free WiFi and toilet facilities available to customers. A burger counter has been added recently, serving fries alongside sandwiches.

Visitors consistently praise the coffee quality and reasonable pricing relative to other cafes in the city, though opinions on portion sizes vary—hot lattes come in notably small cups, and burger portions are described as modest for the price. Service is generally friendly, though one visitor reported a barista who neither greeted nor engaged with customers; another highlighted affordable prices compared to international chains. Bottled water pricing has drawn criticism at 2,500 riel per small bottle. The modern interior and comfortable seating appeal to those wanting a place to sit and relax or work for an hour.

The cafe opens daily from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM, making it suitable for breakfast, lunch breaks, or an afternoon stop. It works best for travellers seeking reliable coffee and WiFi without the premium pricing of larger chains, though those looking for hearty meals may find portions and value elsewhere. The air conditioning and contemporary setting make it a practical retreat during Kampong Cham's heat.

Kizuna Bridge Roundabout is 294 m north of Princess Guest House — about 4 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “sights”.

The next two places under “sights” from Princess Guest House are Tour des Français (1.4 km) and Phnom Srei (6.7 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Kizuna Bridge Roundabout in Kampong Cham is the approach to the Spien Kizuna, the first bridge to cross the Mekong River in Cambodia. Built with Japanese government funding and opened in 2001, the bridge represents a engineering landmark for the country and carries symbolic weight as a symbol of Khmer-Japanese friendship—kizuna means "bond" in Japanese. The roundabout itself is a practical junction rather than a destination with attractions, though the bridge structure and views of the Mekong are visible from the area. The site is recognizable enough to appear on the Cambodian 500 riel note.

Visitors generally regard the roundabout as a notable waypoint rather than a place to linger. Those passing through appreciate the historical significance of seeing Cambodia's first Mekong crossing and acknowledge its importance to regional transport. However, most acknowledge there is limited reason to stop for an extended visit—it functions primarily as a transit point, and beyond viewing the bridge itself, there is little to occupy time at the roundabout.

The roundabout suits travellers moving between provinces who want to acknowledge the landmark, or those with particular interest in modern Cambodian infrastructure and diplomatic history. There is no entrance fee or admission required. The best time to visit is during daylight hours if you wish to photograph the bridge clearly. Come prepared for the heat and traffic typical of a busy roundabout junction; this is an active transport hub rather than a quieted tourist site.

Kampong Cham Market is 739 m north of Princess Guest House — about 9 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “markets”.

The other place under “markets” within reach of Princess Guest House is 7 Makara Market (944 m).

Kampong Cham Market is a general goods market in the provincial city of Kampong Cham, operating daily from 8 AM to 4 PM. The market sells vegetables and fresh produce sourced from local and northeastern farms, alongside street food stalls, household goods, and various other commodities. Some vendors operate later in the day. The market sits near views of the Mekong River and the bridge crossing it, giving it a different character from the larger markets in Phnom Penh. Visitors who seek halal-certified food will find stalls run by ethnic Cham Muslims, though official halal certification does not exist in Cambodia.

Visitors consistently note that the market feels authentically local and offers a genuine glimpse into everyday Cambodian commerce. Produce is reported as fresh, and vendors are generally described as friendly. However, several aspects warrant noting. The environment is not always clean. More significantly, multiple visitors mention that vendors often quote higher prices to foreign customers, even for basic food items, so negotiating is advisable. A few guests praise the experience as equal to or better than larger city markets, but others simply note it as worth visiting if time permits. The market works best for travellers interested in practising conversational Khmer and exploring local foods and goods rather than those seeking unusual attractions.

Visit in the morning for the freshest selection and most vendors. The market suits independent travellers who enjoy casual exploration and don't mind the standard haggling over prices that marks most Cambodian markets. It's a reasonable stop if you're already in Kampong Cham, particularly for sourcing local produce or experiencing day-to-day provincial life, but not a destination in itself.

Smile Restaurant is 826 m north-east of Princess Guest House — about 10 minutes on foot.

Smile Restaurant sits on Street 7 in central Kampong Cham and serves Khmer and Southeast Asian dishes throughout the day and evening. The menu includes Fish Amok, salads, nasi goreng, and rice dishes with pork, alongside wine and spirits. The restaurant opens from 6 AM to 10 PM daily except Sunday.

Visitors consistently praise the food quality and portion sizes. Fish Amok, fresh salads, and curries are frequently mentioned as well-executed and flavourful, with fair pricing for the standard. Service receives mixed reports: several visitors describe the staff as friendly and welcoming, but others found service slow and inattentive, particularly during quiet periods. One regular visitor noted that service improved markedly when the restaurant was busy. Attention to detail has been flagged as inconsistent—some guests report impeccable experiences while others mention dirty menus with missing pages, uncleaned tables, and slow bill processing. The menu lists gin and tonic but staff reportedly lacked tonic water on at least one visit, despite it being available nearby.

The restaurant works well as a reliable dinner option during a stay in Kampong Cham, especially if you're staying nearby and want a change from hotel dining. It appears to be one of the few local restaurants offering wine and spirits alongside Khmer food in the town centre. Be aware that quality and service vary—some evenings run smoothly while others feel rushed or inattentive. Breakfast is served from 6 AM if you're an early riser. Sunday closing means you'll need to eat elsewhere that day.

7 Makara Market is 944 m south-west of Princess Guest House — about 12 minutes on foot.

The other place under “markets” within reach of Princess Guest House is Kampong Cham Market (739 m).

Seven Makara Market sits in the city center of Kampong Cham, near the riverfront in Sangkat Veal Vong. This is a working local market where vendors sell fresh vegetables, fruits, meat, and protein alongside everyday staples and modern appliances. It functions as the kind of place residents come to for their daily shopping rather than a tourist attraction, though visitors passing through the city will find it accessible and genuine.

Guests consistently describe the market as lively and well-stocked, with high energy and helpful vendors. The atmosphere draws praise for being authentically local. The water facilities are noted as clean. Some visitors rank it among Kampong Cham's better open markets, though opinions vary on whether the range of goods justifies a dedicated visit if you are not shopping for provisions. Those looking for a glimpse of everyday Cambodian commerce rather than curated tourist experiences tend to find it worthwhile.

The market opens daily from 6 AM to around 6:30 PM, making it accessible for morning or evening visits. It is genuinely geared toward locals, so arriving early tends to offer the freshest selection and most active trading. If you are staying in Kampong Cham and need fresh produce or basic goods, or want to see how the city's residents shop, this is a straightforward place to visit. Expect a crowded, informal setting with narrow aisles and vendors who do not speak English, though they are reported as patient and accommodating.

Tour des Français is 1.4 km east of Princess Guest House — about 17 minutes on foot. It is among the three closest places to the hotel under “sights”.

The next two places under “sights” from Princess Guest House are Kizuna Bridge Roundabout (294 m) and Phnom Srei (6.7 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Tour des Français is a colonial-era watchtower in Kampong Cham, built in the 1920s during the French administration. It sits on the Tonle Bet side of town, accessible via the Kizuna Bridge. The tower's main appeal is the view from its top, which visitors reach by climbing a steep internal staircase—more ladder than conventional steps, with four flights to ascend. The structure itself is simple and largely empty inside.

Visitors consistently highlight the view as the reward for climbing, though the stairs themselves divide opinion. Those who make the climb report it worthwhile; those with vertigo or a fear of heights often turn back. The building's condition draws mixed responses. Some accept its age and modest upkeep as fitting a free attraction; others note it is dirty, poorly maintained, and open to the elements, which means birds roost inside. Several visitors mention the steps are exceptionally steep and high, making the climb uncomfortable for those with mobility concerns. The internal staircase was restored in 2005, though visitors do not comment on the quality of that work.

The tower is open around the clock, making it accessible at any hour, though daylight is necessary to enjoy the view and navigate safely. The climb suits visitors with a head for heights and reasonable fitness; those with vertigo, fear of stairs, or limited mobility should reconsider. Wear sturdy shoes for the ladder-like steps and expect the interior to be in basic condition. The experience is brief—most spend under an hour here—and pairs well with a walk across the nearby Kizuna Bridge if you are exploring central Kampong Cham.

Phnom Srei is 6.7 km north-west of Princess Guest House — a short ride rather than a walk. It is among the three closest places to the hotel under “sights”.

The next two places under “sights” from Princess Guest House are Kizuna Bridge Roundabout (294 m) and Tour des Français (1.4 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Phnom Srei, known as the Female's Mountain, is a hilltop temple complex in Kampong Cham Province. The site consists of an ancient pagoda reached by a winding path that climbs through greenery. Visitors ascend to the summit where vintage paintings decorate the temple buildings. The location offers views across the landscape and sits within a local legend about a competition between a man and woman to build the highest mountain.

Visitors consistently praise the peaceful atmosphere during the climb and the warmth of local people encountered at the site. The temple grounds and their historical character attract those interested in Cambodia's religious heritage. The main practical drawback noted by multiple visitors is that the access road is poorly signposted and easy to miss; asking locals for directions is necessary. Additionally, there is a common issue with unofficial fee collectors at the entrance demanding payment. The site is officially free to enter, and while donations are accepted, there is no compulsory entry charge despite what unofficial figures may claim.

The site works best for visitors with time for a slower pace and an interest in temple exploration rather than major attractions. It suits motorcycle travellers from Phnom Penh to Kampong Cham, since the road between cities is in good condition. Go early in the day to experience the quieter atmosphere mentioned by visitors. Bring water for the climb, wear appropriate footwear, and be prepared to ask for directions to locate the entrance road.

Phnom Bros Library is 7.1 km north-west of Princess Guest House — a short ride rather than a walk.

The next two places under “sights” from Princess Guest House are Kizuna Bridge Roundabout (294 m) and Tour des Français (1.4 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Phnom Bros Library sits on a hillside near Kampong Cham and centres on a striking pagoda topped with a four-faced Buddha statue. The site includes several Khmer-style temples accessible by easy steps up the hill, making it manageable for most visitors. The location draws regular tour groups from river cruises, and there is no entrance fee.

Visitors consistently praise the pagoda's appearance and the views from the hilltop, along with the accessibility of the temple structures. The main caveat across reviews concerns the monkeys that inhabit the site in significant numbers. They are known to raid bins and scatter litter, and visitors are repeatedly warned not to feed them or make direct eye contact, as they can be unpredictable. Several reviewers mention this as a genuine concern rather than a minor detail, so come prepared to keep distance and secure any food or shiny items.

The site is a short tuk-tuk ride from Kampong Cham city, making it an easy half-day visit. Morning or early afternoon is advisable, both for avoiding heat and for better visibility in photographs. Wear sturdy shoes for the temple steps and bring water. It suits those with an interest in Buddhist architecture and Khmer temples, and works well as part of a wider Kampong Cham itinerary, though the monkey presence means it is less ideal for visitors with young children or those uncomfortable around wildlife.
