Not a bad place for the price. Rooms are beginning to age; a slight smell of (Mildew? Sewage?) pervaded the room. Only two threadbare and very old towels provided. No face clothes and no sheets. Just a mattress with a mattress cover and a comforter. No sheets was a bit weird as I don’t want to sleep under a comforter in this heat and without some kind of sheet between me and whoever used the room and bed last. Kinda gross. There is no room service (no garbage removal, no new towels, and bedding, as mentioned, is questionable)
However, the dogs are NOT aggressive, just a bit excited to see new guests. The hosts were friendly and helpful ….. the pool was great. A/C worked fine.
Bottom line: place is getting run down. You get what you pay for, good deal for the money but definitely a three star resort at best.
We stayed for 4 nights. This place is lovely and quiet with a nice view of the mountains from the good sized pool. The two German guys who run the place are super friendly and helpful. Their dogs are friendly and well behaved. The rooms were a little dated but clean and a good size. Great value quiet accommodation. They organised a scooter for us and we enjoyed trips into Kampot, Kep and the mountain resort.
Great stay, nice and peaceful in very scenic area.
Breakfast is great and enjoyed the German style bacon.
Leave you in peace but if you need them then they are there to help you
Thanks guys hope to stay with you again someday
I'm writing on behalf of my parents who stayed here for 3 weeks. This is what they had to say.....
"Beautiful place; beautiful settings. The room was excellent and having a pool just a few feet away was absolutely great. Very, very relaxed and organised hosts (Yogi and Dirk) and the staff were extremely helpful.
Meals were always available on site with more substantial food in a local cafe or ordered online and delivered to your door. A few minutes walk away there is a small but well stocked supermarket.
Having a quieter place a short distance from the main town was, for us, a definite plus.
We would recommend Mabuhay to any short or long stay traveller who wants a base from which to explore the area.

A few things I want to add:
My mum has mobility issues and she had no problem at all getting around and using all of the facilities. She was especially happy with the pool.
I have noticed a couple of comments regarding the resident dogs. I know these two dogs well, they are extremely sweet and well behaved. I bring my own 2 dogs to visit regularly and often bring local kids (who are afraid of dogs) to do English classes as use the pool and I have never had the slightest problem. I also know the people who wrote the "anti-dog" posts and I can't say anything as nice about them!
When I asked my parents what score they wanted to give my dad immediately said 10 out of 5.
And finally, both my parents and I were a bit concerned about their visit to Cambodia as i
The resort changed its name to Mabuhai Guesthouse.
It is a wonderful place and very relaxing. The two German hosts are very friendly and helpful and full of good humor. They organize Scooter renting at no extra cost. Scooter trips like to Kep beach or Preah Minivong Bokor National Park are really fun and THE way of getting around.
The guesthouse has a lovely pool, nice trees and breakfast. It is the first hotel we found that separates trash like ALU cans and PET bottles. You can even refill your water bottles for free and avoid more plastic waste.
Overall a really enjoyable stay and that's the reason we extended for extra day. Some rooms have no fridge, so you may want to check before booking. But hey even without life is good 😉
