Koh Rong New Beach Resort

Golden Beach Surf Club is 174 m east of Koh Rong New Beach Resort — about 2 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “sights”.

The next two places under “sights” from Koh Rong New Beach Resort are Ocean Breeze (6.7 km) and Coconut Beach (8.9 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Set on Sok San Beach on Koh Rong, this is a small surf outfit rather than a sight to simply look at — visitors come here to get in the water, either trying surfing for the first time or taking a lesson with the on-site instructors. The beach location itself is part of the draw, quieter and less crowded than the island's main strip, which gives lessons room to breathe.

Reviews are strikingly consistent and nearly all center on the instructors rather than the setting alone. Guests repeatedly single out Angelo, along with Greg and Andy, for being patient, encouraging and genuinely fun to learn from, with several mentioning that kids and complete beginners were put at ease quickly. People describe leaving with more confidence on a board than they expected, and more than one visitor says they would come back specifically because of the coaching. No recurring complaints or caveats show up in the feedback.

It is open daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM, though Sunday hours are not listed, so it is worth checking ahead if you are planning around a weekend. Reviewers mention the low season as a particularly good time to visit, when the beach and the water are less busy. This suits families with children, couples looking for an activity to mark an occasion, and anyone curious about surfing without prior experience, since the emphasis throughout the reviews is on teaching rather than just board rental.

Royal Beach is 1.9 km south-east of Koh Rong New Beach Resort — about 24 minutes on foot. It is the closest place to the hotel under “beaches”.

The other place under “beaches” within reach of Koh Rong New Beach Resort is Kaoh Touch Beach (6.5 km).

Royal Beach on Koh Rong is a sandy stretch with white sand and calm, clear water. It remains relatively quiet and undeveloped compared to busier tourist beaches, with few vendors and minimal commercial activity. The beach is accessible by private boat and stays open around the clock.

Visitors consistently praise the quality of the sand and water, along with the peaceful atmosphere and sunset views. The main drawback mentioned across reviews is garbage—while hotel staff apparently clean the beach around midday, debris does wash ashore and visitors note they should take their own trash with them. The beach suits those seeking tranquillity without loud bar music or crowds, though some acknowledge that the calm comes with limited facilities and services.

Go early in the day to catch the sunrise and enjoy maximum quiet time. Bring supplies with you, including food, water and sun protection, as vendors are sparse. Plan to arrive by private boat (around $25 reportedly for a three-hour trip). This is a beach for people who want solitude and natural scenery rather than infrastructure or dining options.

The Balcony Koh Rong - Wine & Cheese House is 5.9 km south-east of Koh Rong New Beach Resort — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “bars”.

The other place under “bars” within reach of Koh Rong New Beach Resort is Ocean Blue Bar (6.5 km).

The Balcony is a small wine and cheese house on Long Set Beach on Koh Rong, set slightly apart from the island's beach-bar strip. It specialises in charcuterie and cheese boards paired with a curated wine list, alongside coffee and a bottomless brunch on Sundays. The setting looks out over the jungle and sea, with mellow background music adding to the relaxed feel.

Visitors consistently single out the cheese and meat boards as generous, well-made and a genuine treat for anyone missing quality cold cuts on the islands. The wine pairing draws repeated praise, as does the smoked duck croissant mentioned by more than one guest. What comes up again and again, though, is the service: reviewers describe the team, including hosts named Louise and Neil, as warm, attentive and clearly invested in guests having a good evening. No real complaints surface in the reviews, only a wish from at least one visitor that they'd had time to catch the Sunday brunch.

This is a spot for slowing down rather than a lively night out, better suited to couples or small groups after a relaxed evening with good wine and food than to travellers chasing a party scene. Given that it's tucked away rather than on the main strip, it helps to ask locally or check directions before setting out, particularly after dark. It's worth timing a visit around the Sunday bottomless brunch if that fits the schedule, and worth arriving with an appetite, since the boards are reported as substantial rather than a token snack.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Koh Rong New Beach Resort are Happyplace (6.5 km) and Enocafe Coffee & Italian Restaurant (6.5 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

MaLoop is a cafe and restaurant on Long Set Beach in Koh Rong Samloem, opening from 6 AM to 11 PM daily. It functions as both a casual dining spot and a motorbike rental operation, located about a five-minute walk from the Long Set Ferry terminal. The kitchen serves Khmer dishes alongside cafe staples, and the place draws both day-trippers waiting out weather and island visitors in need of transport.

Visitors consistently praise the coffee as among the best on the island, and Khmer dishes like fish amok and beef lok lok on rice receive repeated mention for flavour. The staff are noted for friendliness and language skills, with the owner described as flexible and helpful, particularly regarding bike rentals. One visitor's main caution was that the blueberry milk, while tasty, runs very sweet. Motorbike rentals from here are reported as fairly priced, with well-maintained newer bikes in good working condition suitable for exploring beaches, hills and off-road terrain across the island.

The location works best for those arriving by ferry who want immediate access to island transport without venturing far, or for anyone seeking a reliable meal and coffee break during a beach day. The walk from the pier is short enough to be convenient, though worth noting if you are carrying luggage or prefer immediate beachfront dining.

Kaoh Touch Beach is 6.5 km south-east of Koh Rong New Beach Resort — a short ride rather than a walk.

The other place under “beaches” within reach of Koh Rong New Beach Resort is Royal Beach (1.9 km).

Kaoh Touch Beach is the main developed beach on Koh Rong island, lined with hotels, restaurants, bars, and rental services. It functions as the island's commercial hub, where most visitors find accommodation, food, and practical necessities within easy reach. The beach itself is a bay with sandy areas, though conditions vary.

Visitors consistently praise the convenience—food, lodging, and bike rentals are readily available at competitive prices, and the area suits those wanting easy access to services without travelling far. However, reviews also reveal significant environmental concerns that cannot be ignored. Multiple visitors report the beach is heavily littered with plastic and glass debris, the water smells of sewage, and waste streams flow into the bay from above. The sand poses a barefoot hazard due to sharp plastic fragments. Some visitors have been disturbed enough by the state of the area to participate in beach cleanups themselves. On weekends, the beach becomes busier with vendors and tourists, though it does not reach severe overcrowding.

The beach works best for travellers prioritising convenience and affordable facilities over pristine conditions, or those planning brief stays. If environmental cleanliness is important to you, reviews suggest looking elsewhere on the island. Visit during weekdays if you prefer fewer crowds and vendors. Bring water shoes to protect your feet, and manage expectations about water quality and beach conditions before arriving.

Ocean Blue Bar sits on the beachfront in Koh Rong and operates as a combination pizzeria and bar. Visitors find Italian-style pizza as the main draw, alongside a full bar with happy hour beers. The space overlooks the sea, with a casual beach atmosphere and tables positioned to take in the views.

Guests consistently praise the pizza, describing the dough, base, and toppings as well-executed and comparing it favourably to European standards. The kitchen works quickly; orders arrive at the table fast. Service staff speak English and are noted as friendly and welcoming. One returning visitor came back two years later and found the pizza still at the same standard. Drinks are mentioned as cheaper than nearby bars. The beachfront location and overall atmosphere receive consistent approval. No significant criticisms appear in visitor feedback.

Happyplace is 6.5 km south-east of Koh Rong New Beach Resort — a short ride rather than a walk. It is among the three closest places to the hotel under “restaurants”.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Koh Rong New Beach Resort are MaLoop cafe and restaurant (Koh Rong) (6.5 km) and Enocafe Coffee & Italian Restaurant (6.5 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Happyplace is a casual restaurant on Koh Rong that operates around the clock. The kitchen turns out pizza, pad Thai, rice dishes, fried rice, and chicken wings. It sits in a relaxed, laid-back setting that fits the island's atmosphere, and the owner and staff are noted by visitors as genuinely friendly.

The pizza receives consistent praise—visitors describe it as thin, crispy, and flavourful. Pad Thai also stands out as a strong dish. Rice and fried rice options are available, and you can request them without egg for a vegetarian choice, though some visitors have found the French fries excessively oily. Service is generally helpful, though wait times can stretch when the restaurant is busy or a large group arrives at the same time as you. Prices strike visitors as fair for an island location.

The 24-hour opening means you can eat here whenever hunger strikes during your stay on Koh Rong. Arrive when the restaurant is quiet if you prefer faster service. It suits anyone after straightforward, well-executed casual food in a friendly environment rather than fine dining.

Enocafe Coffee & Italian Restaurant is 6.5 km south-east of Koh Rong New Beach Resort — a short ride rather than a walk. It is among the three closest places to the hotel under “restaurants”.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Koh Rong New Beach Resort are MaLoop cafe and restaurant (Koh Rong) (6.5 km) and Happyplace (6.5 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Enocafe Coffee & Italian Restaurant sits in Koh Toch village on Koh Rong Island, offering Italian cuisine run by an Italian team. The restaurant spans multiple levels and serves pasta, pizza, and coffee. It opens daily from 11:30 AM to 9:30 PM, except Sundays when hours are not listed.

Visitors consistently praise the food quality, particularly the handmade pasta — gnocci and ravioli appear frequently in mentions — and the thin-crust pizzas made to European standards rather than local fusion styles. The pasta sauces and portions receive repeated compliments. Several guests note that the standard is notably higher than other restaurants on the island, though this comes at a higher price point. Staff friendliness, particularly one staff member named Da, is mentioned. The restaurant also offers WiFi and is considered safe for those with cautious eating preferences. No significant complaints appear in the available reviews.

The restaurant suits visitors craving authentic Italian food while island-hopping and willing to pay a premium for quality. It works well for those who want a break from fusion cooking or are particular about food standards. Since hours on Sunday are not confirmed, check ahead if planning a visit late in the week. The multi-level setting makes it a reasonable choice if you want to spend time away from the beach for a meal.
