Whilst the rooms are clean and the bed is fairly comfortable, there is very little else to say for the place.
The huts are thin bamboo and offer no noise protection, and the bar plays loud thumping music until around 3.30am. The bungalows are not set back from the only entrance path so you can hear everything clearly; lots of drunk people and mopeds entering and leaving all night. There is basically no security as anyone can visit any time of night.
The room is open to insects and other wildlife which is usual with this style of bungalow, but the mosquito net had large holes in (one maybe 10cm across).
The bathrooms are cleaned but in a poor state, the shower did not work in the one I used and there was a large rusty nail on the floor for some reason. No toilet paper or hot water.
When we went to check out a day early due to getting no sleep at all, the staff member was completely unsympathetic.
Whilst we offered to pay for the night we stayed despite it being almost entirely unpleasant, he tried to insist we pay for the second night. He dropped it to the booking fee instead after we refused.
If you're looking for a party this may be the place, but otherwise I'd avoid it entirely.
My favorite guesthouse in Cambodia!
Actually I just wanted to stay there for 3 days or so. But the result was a two month stay :D I had a really nice time with very friendly staff and guests over there!
Greets from Germany
I have to revise my 5 stars... There is a new owner now with new employees... I did send some friends there because I did'nt know... The employees have stolen them 250 $ from the room. So now it's SCAM - WATCH OUT! The new owner says, they have lockers now in the rooms.
It is acceptable. The price is moderate for its kind. However, there are a few drawbacks. The room is not so clean, the deck doesn't have the picturesque view of Kampot river, and it doesn't have the proper space to park your vehicle. I got my bicycle and I need to lock it by myself and take full responsibility of it. This is not okay for a guest to stay and to worry about his/her ride being subjected to be stolen.
My overall experience: I won't be returning unless I couldn't find a proper place to crash.
Best hidden gem on the Kampot River!
Non commercial, no hassle vibe, simply lovely gardens. The owner John is such a positive guy with heaps of knowledge on the local area as well as all of Cambodia and SE Asia. He also offers in house daily tours ranging from water fall treks to tubing Rapids to full on Enduro dirt biking tours and 4X4 tours. Even better, they have a super nice sunset river boat that departs every evening, well worth the modest price that includes drinks. The mostly Khmer staff and Delly, John's business partner, are amazing people who simply love their country and being a staff member at Naga as well as providing your best local knowledge. That alone speaks volumes from a traveler. Time and time again, I've seen Western owners/managers treat their native staff with disrespect. Here, at Naga, it's one big happy family! I loved it!
Best part is, the rooms, food and good cheer everyday are a smash. I would highly recomend this guest house to any traveler who wants to meet the real locals, both Western and Khmer. You won't be disappointed.
They stole all of my cash. I kept my money with me, maybe my eyes were off it for a second or they came in while I slept, but all the cash I brought with me was gone by the morning. At check in they warn of thieves, even saying to not use the lockbox provided (why provide if you'll just steal from them anyways??). I had read previous reviews of thievery so I already knew to be cautious. Don't stay here and if you do, be careful. It could have been a nice time on the river but they are crooks.
