Kamaku is a small beachfront hotel on Sunset Beach, on the island of Koh Rong Samloem in Cambodia. Accommodation ranges from bungalows set a few steps from the sea to tipi tents by the water. There is electricity, but no air conditioning and no hot water, and some options use shared bathrooms, so the property sits somewhere between a resort, glamping and camping.
The on-site restaurant is full service and serves a mix of Spanish and western dishes, including a seafood platter and paella, which has to be pre-ordered a day in advance. A happy hour with a choice of cocktails runs in the evening. Hammocks and shaded places are spread along the beachfront, the sand is clean and the water in front of the property is clear and warm, with snorkelling directly off the beach.

The property is on Sunset Beach, Sanloem 180406, on Koh Rong Samloem. Four other places to stay line the same beach, each with its own full-service restaurant, and one of them has a fair to good WiFi signal. Access is from Saracen Beach on foot, or by tractor bed ride ($15) followed by a steep 10-minute jungle path; boat transfers land on the beach for about $50 from Saracen Beach and $20 from M'Pai Bay. The beach faces the sunset, which is visible from the property each evening.
Bon à savoir
Getting here takes planning: the walk from Saracen Beach is long, hot and humid, so many guests use the tractor ride plus jungle path or arrange a boat landing instead. Rooms and tents have electricity but no air conditioning or hot water, and the camping-style options share bathrooms. WiFi runs off a SIM card in a bucket in a tree, so connectivity is limited. Paella at the restaurant must be ordered one day ahead.

We did not stay here, but enjoyed twice a lovely sunset at the beach with a delicious Spanish dinner and great cocktails. The seafood platter and the paella (pre-order one day ahead for the paella) were really good. They have a happy hour to indulge in the amazing cocktails.
A great place to relax! Snorkeling off the beach is also very good. A mix of resort (full service restaurant), glamping (beach front bungalows, electricity), and camping (no ac, shared bathroom, no hot water) in a paradisical setting. There are 4 other 'resorts' on Sunset beach, each with full service restaurants, one with a 'fair' to 'good' WiFi signal. Hearty trek to get there from Saracen beach, or take a tractor bed ride ($15) + 10 min steep jungle path, or arrange a boat to beach landing ($50 from Saracen, $20 from M'Pai Bay). Once there it's great vibes for chilling. We enjoyed our week at Kamaku.
Thank you to our hosts, Julia & Oscar and the wonderful staff at Kamaku! We have just finished an 8 night stay in one of their bungalows and we couldn’t be happier with our choice. This is the best location on Sunset beach. Plenty of hammocks and shady places to cruise through the day. The water is clear and warm, the beach sand is clean and the sunsets are amazing every night. Kamaku restaurant is excellent with a nice mix of spanish and western cuisine. They also have happy(2) hour every night with a great choice of cocktails. There are plenty of other restaurants along the beach which was nice for choice and a change of scenery. Thanks again, we will be back!
We had an amazing stay at Kamaku for 5 nights in a tipi tent by the sea. There are of course some compromises which come with staying on a fairly remote beach, which make it not for everyone. For us however, we loved the chilled nature, hammocks and being able to shut off from the world. Loved that the WiFi here is a SIM card in a bucket in a tree, epitomises what makes this place special. It is slightly more pricey than others but is to be expected. The hosts were kind and attentive throughout. We enjoyed the happy hour. We did the walk there and back from Saracen, very hot and humid in the midday- take water- again not for everyone. Loved the free use of books, games, boules, gym and mask and snorkel. We will return to this place and hope it retains its idyllic and quiet nature.
An unforgettable and unique experience!
Paradise island with beautiful cozy bungalows just a few steps from the sea. Great food!
A special mention to the incredible staff, Lizandro and Carlos, always so friendly, dedicated and attentive to all the guests' needs.
5 stars because I can't give 6 !😁
