Happy Elephant Bungalow is a hostel in Sen Monorom, in Cambodia's Mondulkiri province, set on a wooded plot where the buildings sit among the surrounding nature. Rooms come with a mosquito net and a fan, and beds that guests describe as comfortable. The common area is built of wood and bamboo, with hammocks to rest in, two pool tables and cold beer available.
Food is served on site and is a large part of the stay: noodles, pancakes and sour soup are among the dishes guests mention, at prices they call inexpensive. There is also a pool. The owners, including Mr Moth, live alongside guests in the common area and organise tours in the area; staff have helped guests arrange onward bus travel, in one case driving a guest to the bus station. One of the owners speaks French.
This suits travellers coming to Mondulkiri for tours and time outdoors, who want a quiet, jungle setting and a sociable...

The hostel is in Chrey Sean commune, on the edge of Sen Monorom in Mondulkiri, Cambodia. It sits in a natural, jungle-like setting rather than in the town itself, which means quieter surroundings and noticeably more insects than a town-centre stay. Owners and staff organise tours in the area and can help arrange onward buses, including to Siem Reap.

Rooms are equipped with a mosquito net and a fan. Because the property is surrounded by nature, insects and the occasional gecko are part of the setting. Meals are available on site at low prices, and the owners can arrange tours as well as help with onward bus travel; several guests extended their stay to fit in more tours.
This place is super cozy, because it is surrounded by nature!! the common area is reeeeally nice, all made of wood and bambu, and it has some hammocks to chill and a pool to play. The owners are really nice and one of the staff members, Mei, helped me with the bus to Siem Riep and he even drove me to the bus station!!!!
The beds are nice and comfy.
The only thing i would say is that if you are a person who is picky about bugs and mosquitos, maybe this is not your place! It is surrounded by nature and obviously you’ll have more insects than in the town.
The food was very good and inexpensive, the room had a mosquito net and a fan, and the setting was lovely – you really feel like you’re in the jungle. There are two pool tables available with cold beer ;) if you’d like! There’s also a hammock for your nap. The owner is fantastic; if you speak French, you’ll get along well with him – he’s wonderful.
Thank you for the two days, we won’t forget you!
An awesome place to stay in Mondulkiri!!! The owners are amazing and super available. They can organize tours and you can spend time with them on the common area. Food is delicious. I recommend this place if you are looking for peace and adventure!! Will come back soon!
I stayed here for 3 nights, I extendes twice to do the tours, the owner Mr Moth was very welcoming and accommodating, they sorted out everything I could possibly want, the food here is absolutely delicious from the noodles to the pancakes to the sour soup, I've eaten very very well since staying here
Very charming place, I was worried at first about insects and wildlife as I saw a couple geckos in the room initially, but this is no different to any hotel room paying 5x the price, in the end I never saw another one after this so it was never a problem
Older reviews saying no hot water, now they have hot showers which is actually the first hot shower I've had in Cambodia after 3 weeks as well which was very refreshing for me
Very relaxing chill backpacker vibe, don't skip this one unless you're a snowflake
Thank you Mr Moth and family ❤️
