We have been travelling around Cambodia for three weeks, and our time in Kratie has been the highlight of the trip thanks to Mr Sok Sambath and his homestay. From the moment we arrived, Mr Sok and his family were incredibly genuine and welcoming, making us feel at home straight away. We shared breakfast and dinner with them each day, which made the experience even more special. One of the highlights was Mr Sok's tuk-tuk tours. He took us to see the rare Irrawaddy dolphins in the Mekong River, one of Kratie's main attractions. We enjoyed the experience very much and enjoyed the ethical nature - engine off boating and observing dolphins from a safe distance without stressing them. However, the most memorable part of the tour was the immersion in local life. We visited local families, spent time with members of the community, and even joined in games of volleyball with the children. We also learned how rice wine and rice noodles are made, how harvested rice is processed, and how traditional bamboo sticky rice is prepared. These are experiences we would never have been able to organise ourselves and were only possible because of Mr Sok's close connections within the local community. Mr Sok can also arrange onward travel to your next destination at very reasonable prices. We cannot recommend this homestay highly enough. If you are visiting Kratie and want an authentic local experience, this is the place to stay.

Such a lovely homestay with Sok Sambath and his family! It was the most integrated I’ve felt in a homestay! Cool location where you get to wake up everyday to the local morning market. My room was just partitioned by a curtain on the top floor but it still felt cozy. Did the local village tour with Sambath and that was cool as well because he took us around to see so many things we wouldn’t have been able to see on our own (local production of rice noodles and rice desserts, small rice factory, etc).

Can't reccommed this place enough! It's a wonderful homestay near to Kratie, offering a very comfortable night in a family home, who were all incredibly welcoming and fun to spend time around (plus great cooks). Went into town with them all to celebrate a local festival, and ate dinner there every night. The host also runs local tours, and can help sort out transport, or any other questions about the area. Don't miss the dolphins! 🐬

When staying at Tonle Mekong Homestay you as traveler not only choose a tranquil, charming guesthouse, but also to support a family who is running it who is the sweetest, most helpful and caring I have met during my travels. The location is a bit far from the city centre, which can be a hassle for those coming with local transport that only stops there. It’s a fairly long walk with backpacks and all. The rooms are OK and equipped with fans, clean bed linen (which is not a given around here, trust me) and towels. The entire family is incredibly sweet and helpful. The dad cooks really good and offers cheap meals to those staying. Also arranges tours and transport transfers.

Tonle and his family were extremely welcoming of our family of 4 into his home. We had the most amazing time and wished that we were able to stay longer. A1 hospitality, help with transfers, local tuk tuk tour, evening walks & chats about life, amazingly tasty dinners shared with other guests from around the globe at a long table. Straight to the point this is a home stay on a dusty stretch with amazing sunsets across the Mekong River A+, it is not a luxury hotel nor pretends to be one. Be prepared to experience life as the locals are accustomed. The market next door kicks off at 4am but that's ok because the roosters start at about 2.30am so you are ready to rise by 5am and explore the hustle and bustle whilst it is still dark. Fresh produce, fish, pork and variety stalls line the street and market place. To quietly sit and listen as the locals and wandering animals go about their daily duties was a personal highlight. If you are curious in seeing what goes on in the daily lives of the families living in the traditional homes & structures as you enter townships then this is a great start. Highly recommended.
