The room was okay but it doesn’t have any facilities. The price is 7.5$ with 2 fan and 2 bed. It’s a bit old and because mostly wooden so has many insects around it.

Thyda and Tep are such wonderful hosts. They have so much to share. I had a lovely time talking to both of them and knowing more about cambodians and their country. Thyda also runs an amazing homestay. I als rented a scooter from them and drove around. Highly recommend their homestay!

Very nice place to stay for the night but also to eat because there is also such a great restaurant here. The price is good, the place is surrounded by green plants and flowers, the room is clean and get everything you need. The host is also very kind and welcoming and will arrange everything for you : scooter rental, early breakfast and book minibus for your next destination. Highly recommend !

WARNING I booked via bookingcom 2 weeks before my arrival. My booking was confirmed. I even sent a message to the guest house via "bookingcom" to specify my arrival time. Rithea, the owner, replied "no problem, we'll be waiting for you". As I had read that some people had booked but that the receptionist had refused the booking on the day, I wrote a WhatsApp message to the owner repeating my booking. When I arrived, the receptionist (actually Rithea's wife) started by telling me that she didn't have my booking and that the hotel was full. I showed her husband's reply and his WhatsApp number and she sent me back to him (who, obviously, was not here), telling me it was her husband's mistake but not hers!!!! Anyway, there were no rooms available, so I left. In fact, Rithea and his wife practice overbooking and don't manage reservations at all. If there's no room available on the day you arrive, they'll tell you that they haven't received your reservation or that they've been hacked, blah, blah... Not a very honest way of doing things. I'm asking bookingcom to remove them from their site, with little hope that it will work....

Awesome place! You should definitely go! Bungalows are very nice, clean and spacious. You will be surrounded by the mountains and the atmosphere is very relaxing and calm. Hosts are adorable and available for you. Tydha can cook for you, her food is always good. You can also cook with her if you want. Breakfast is perfect too! Tep is a teacher and you can go in his class if you want to teach a bit of English or just say hello to the kids. They will give you many advice on what to do, where to go. They can organize trekking in the jungle, rent you their motorcycle,... For sure your stay will be perfect and memorable!

Katieng Waterfall

Sights 8.2 km 4.3/5 on Google

Katieng Waterfall is 8.2 km south of Ratanak Tep Rithea Homestay — a short ride rather than a walk.

Katieng Waterfall is a cascade in the countryside near Banlung, set within a small park that remains quieter than other waterfalls in the region. Visitors find a tiered drop with a cave running in a crescent shape beneath it, accessible by a steep trail with old stairs and slippery rocks. A heart-shaped lookout point serves as a photo spot. The base of the falls holds a pool deep enough for swimming, and a cave area provides shelter to rest and cool off.

The waterfall attracts consistent praise for its natural appeal and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors emphasize how deserted it feels compared to busier local attractions, and many mention the pleasant experience of swimming in the pool or exploring the cave underneath the cascade. The park charges a nominal entry fee (reported as one dollar for foreigners) and vendors nearby sell refreshments including sugarcane juice. A note of caution appears in reviews about the slippery rocks and uneven terrain—the trail requires careful footing, and at least one visitor raised concerns about potential snakes. The waterfall location is also home to an elephant trek operated by local handlers; opinions on this activity vary, with some visitors noting the elephants are chained but have forest space to roam.

The site is accessible year-round with no specific opening hours restrictions. Plan for roughly 30 to 45 minutes travel from Banlung city centre, though roads can be confusing and mobile signal is unreliable in the area. Asking locals for directions is advisable if uncertain. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for the rocky terrain and bring a change of clothes if you intend to swim. It suits visitors seeking a quiet natural setting away from crowded attractions, though those uncomfortable with wet and uneven surfaces should consider the physical demands before visiting.
