Malibu Hostel is a beachfront hostel on Koh Rong Samloem, an island in Cambodia's Preah Sihanouk province. It sits on a corner of the beach, with hammocks, sunbeds and chairs set out on the sand and music played in the common beach area.
Accommodation covers several types. Dorms are the cheapest option, at $3 for a bed without air conditioning and $5 for a bed in the air-conditioned dorm, which holds 24 beds. Private options include double rooms in the white buildings set back from the beach, cabins nearer the water, and separate bungalows. The kitchen serves local Cambodian meals alongside Western dishes such as pasta, and drinks are also available.
The hostel draws a young, social crowd and is busy and party-oriented in high season, while in low season, such as September, it is quiet, with only a handful of people in the large dorm. It suits budget travellers who want to stay directl...

The area
Malibu Hostel is on Koh Rong Samloem, an island in Preah Sihanouk province, Cambodia, at Koh Rong, M7MQ+8FP. The property occupies a corner of the beach, with the sand and the water directly in front of it. Rooms are spread between cabins near the shore and white buildings set further back.
Good to know
Dorm beds were priced at $3 without air conditioning and $5 with air conditioning; the air-conditioned dorm sleeps 24. Private accommodation ranges from double rooms in the white buildings to beach cabins and standalone bungalows, and not all of them have hot water. Seasonality makes a large difference here: September falls in the quiet low season, while high season, including November, is far busier and more party-oriented.
I would like to say thank you! It has been amazing! Malibu is located at the beautiful corner of the beach, the water is clean, the service is great, the food is fantastic.. I love pasta, and it has been perfect. Hamacs, comfortable sunbeds and chairs, beautiful music too! Highly recommended! thank you
Staff were nice. Food portions not good good value for money.
I had a double room away from the beach which was better than expected. My friends ended up switching from the cabin to the white buildings as well because the ac was not effective.
The place seems to attract loud young people who like to party.
Amazing beach, adequate facilities and staff.
If not for Son (the manager) I'd rank them 1 star.
Food and drinks takes forever, sometimes they forget our orders.
In my stay we had water and power shortage for 2-3 hours a few times a day.
We had no hot water in private bungalow, it wasn't sealed so all the bugs and reptiles came to visit during the night.
The staff is unfriendly, rooms are ok but full of bugs (we heard that in other rooms there were rats but we had only geckos).
We stayed at the a/c room, they suddenly stopped the a/c so we couldn't get any sleep, when we asked them for a refund they laughed in our face.
Also they took our friends medicine out of the fridge to make room for more alcohol(as they said), it turned out that the medicine was out of the fridge for 4 days.
Bottom line I would recommend going somewhere else
We were there during the low season (september) so almost no customers were present during our stay. We took the AC dorm with 24 beds and were never more than 6 people inside. So in general very quiet and relax. I have to admit that it does look like a place of party during high season so if you are looking for tranquility let's say during November, I would look somewhere else.
That being said, everything about our stay was very pleasant: The staff was very friendly and helpful. The food was good, we only ate local meals. Prices were acceptable: 3$ for a dorm with no AC and 5$ for dorm with AC. Bungalows were 15$ with no AC. The mattresses for our dorm were okay at best, very thin but I like when there are crutains that gives you some privacy which was nice.
So in general I give it a 4/5 for the quality of the staff, the prices for the dorm, the splendid view and the proximity of the beach.
