The rooms are basic, and the value is great. Pu thea is a great host and experienced guide. He helped us a lot with a great experience in the jungle. The breakfast there is delicious and the huts are equipped with mosquito nets, hot water, and external fusset to wash the dirt. The place is highly recommended for a few days to explore the surrounding.

I had a really pleasant 6 nights stay in this homestay. The bungalows are clean and confortable, equipped with a terrace, hammock, big bed, fan and bug net. Some of them come with a private bathroom too. All of that for a really affordable price. You will be staying in the middle of a lush garden, almost making you forget that you are in town. Your hosts, Puthea and his wife, are really kind people that will do anything to help you, from providing with excellent meals to help you book your transports or give you advice about the places to go in Banlung. You can rent bycicles or motorcycles here too. They also organise multiple days jungle treks, which I eard were really nice, but I haven't done it myself. Puthea speaks really good English, so communication is easy. Recommend 100% and would totally come back.

We had a wonderful time with our host and his family. They were always ready to help and offer advice, and their cheerful disposition was infectious. Thank you for those lovely moments before we set off for Laos 😊

Everything was great. The guesthouse is an incredible place, hammocks, benches to chill in front of the rooms.... The room is clean and spacious. The trek organized by the guesthouse was perfect, and the owners are very kind people that will go out of their way just to help you and make you feel comfortable. I can only hightly recommend this place if you comme to Banlung!

Staying here was the highlight of my time in Cambodia! We stayed here 1 night before doing the 3-day trek and then 2 nights afterwards. The trek was amazing with the guides being from the local tribe of the area and they really knew the forest like the back of the their hand. It was a really authentic and memorable experience. The facilities of the homestay itself are very clean and they provide towels and free water refill. You can also lock your valuables in a safe for the duration of the trek. They also cook breakfast and family dinners which is a great way to meet other people you'll be going on the trek with! The host is amazing making sure all guests are well taken care of and goes out of his way to help with anything! He picks you up from the bus stop when you arrive and he drove us with the motorcycle to the bicycle rental shop in town when we wanted to rent bicycles during our last day!

Katieng Waterfall

Sights 8.3 km 4.3/5 on Google

Katieng Waterfall is 8.3 km south of Familyhouse & trekking — a short ride rather than a walk.

Katieng Waterfall is a cascade in the countryside near Banlung, set within a small park that remains quieter than other waterfalls in the region. Visitors find a tiered drop with a cave running in a crescent shape beneath it, accessible by a steep trail with old stairs and slippery rocks. A heart-shaped lookout point serves as a photo spot. The base of the falls holds a pool deep enough for swimming, and a cave area provides shelter to rest and cool off.

The waterfall attracts consistent praise for its natural appeal and peaceful atmosphere. Visitors emphasize how deserted it feels compared to busier local attractions, and many mention the pleasant experience of swimming in the pool or exploring the cave underneath the cascade. The park charges a nominal entry fee (reported as one dollar for foreigners) and vendors nearby sell refreshments including sugarcane juice. A note of caution appears in reviews about the slippery rocks and uneven terrain—the trail requires careful footing, and at least one visitor raised concerns about potential snakes. The waterfall location is also home to an elephant trek operated by local handlers; opinions on this activity vary, with some visitors noting the elephants are chained but have forest space to roam.

The site is accessible year-round with no specific opening hours restrictions. Plan for roughly 30 to 45 minutes travel from Banlung city centre, though roads can be confusing and mobile signal is unreliable in the area. Asking locals for directions is advisable if uncertain. Wear sturdy shoes with good grip for the rocky terrain and bring a change of clothes if you intend to swim. It suits visitors seeking a quiet natural setting away from crowded attractions, though those uncomfortable with wet and uneven surfaces should consider the physical demands before visiting.
