Simply fantastic! Breathe Wild offers an experience unlike any other. The lack of reviews almost made me pass up on it, but I am glad I gave it a chance; it was the highlight of my trip. Davina and her staff were fantastic and went above and beyond to make me and my family feel right at home. Their swimming pool offered a welcome respite from an exhilarating day out on their Quad bikes, and the view surrounding the resort was breathtaking. I cannot recommend it enough!

The Breathe Wild resort is somewhere where you can go and immerse yourself in nature far from a bustling city as the location is remote, and once you are at the resort unless you have a four by four you are there for the duration. We had a vehicle that could get us to the resort but for those of you without the appropriate vehicle the resort will collect you from their meeting point, their shop, before you travel the dirt road. The journey is only suitable for four by fours! The staff here are excellent and really take care of you. Cherb was an excellent guide and took us on a great hike and shared so much of his local knowledge with us regarding the plants and growing up in the area. The actual resort needs some work .. it is tired in places and needs some improvements. The resort is aiming to empower the local communities and support the locals. They are aiming to be eco friendly and want to create a lasting impact. If our money that we paid for the accommodation does go in to helping the community and has an imapct on the people we would be pleased with that, however this was expensive place.

if you’re the kind of person who loves to let life happen, you’re gonna love it here. had one of the best experiences of my life at this resort. the amenities were sufficient and clean, the pool is beautiful (although we did run out of hot water in the shower one evening). special thanks to the wonderful staff who made this stay an exceptional one, receptionist Bong Satya who was everywhere and always ready to help with anything, going above and beyond what was expected

Staying at Breathe Wild was a perfect way to experience the nature and wilderness Mondulkiri has to offer. The resort was a 10mins drive into the forest, and my room and outdoor toilet was really clean! The main staff, Satya, was super friendly and helpful, helping us to settle accommodations and recommending places to visit, which was such a relief for a city girl like me 😆

Breathe wild resort was such an unexpected gem! We decided to go to mondulkiri in hopes of avoiding the hustle and bustle of life and it turned out to be a trip of a lifetime! We took half a day to get to our destination and it was worth every minute of it! We travelled by bus from phnom penh to sen monorom, and then we took a 30 minutes tuktuk ride (which the receptionist, Mr. Satya, kindly booked for us) from sen monorom to breathe wild office. Upon arriving at breathe wild office, we took a 20 minutes truck ride that they called "defender" to reach the resort. The truck ride was steep but super enjoyable despite us being "city girls", we thought it was pretty adventurous of us 🤣 Throughout the trip, the receptionist, Mr. Satya was very helpful and accommodating to all our requests including food (vegetarian), and the change of plans during our stay. He helped us book tuktuks to bring us to mondulkiri elephant sanctuary and ensured that we got another tuktuk ride back. He was super reliable and we are very grateful to get all kinds of help from him. Our truck driver that drove us in and out of the resort, Mr Cherb, was truly a dependable driver and we trusted his driving skills throughout the entire stay. Having him behind the wheels was an assuring feeling as he knows every hill and rock that he drives through. He drove us to bousra waterfall and it was AMAZING! DEFINITELY a must to visit the waterfall there, i would recommend to stay there for a couple hours! There

Chainsaw Elephant

Sights 30.3 km 4.9/5 on Google

Chainsaw Elephant is 30.3 km south-west of Breathe Wild Mondulkiri Resort — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “sights”.

The next two places under “sights” from Breathe Wild Mondulkiri Resort are ELIE & The Elephant Valley Project (30.9 km) and Mondulkiri view point (32.4 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Chainsaw Elephant is a sculpture standing about 2.8 metres tall in Sen Monorom, made entirely from old chainsaws. The monument was created from chainsaws confiscated during enforcement operations against illegal logging in the Mondulkiri Province wildlife sanctuary. Beyond its distinctive appearance, the piece carries a message about forest conservation and the elephants that depend on the region's dense woodland, which faces ongoing deforestation.

Visitors consistently respond to both the technical and conceptual sides of the work. Many note the craftsmanship evident in how the chainsaws have been assembled into an animal form, and several mention appreciating the story behind it—the connection between the tools of illegal logging and the symbol of the forest they damaged. The statue's steampunk-like aesthetic appeals to those drawn to unusual public art. The underlying conservation message resonates with visitors, who understand the work as a statement about protecting Mondulkiri's forest and its wildlife.

The sculpture is located on a street in Sen Monorom town and is easily accessible. It functions as a roadside monument rather than a ticketed attraction, so there are no opening hours to check. The site works best as a stop while exploring Mondulkiri Province if you have an interest in environmental art or local conservation efforts. It takes only a few minutes to view, but the context—learning about the illegal logging crackdown and what the work represents—adds depth to the visit.

Restaurants 30.3 km 3.8/5 on Google

Chantha Sreypich Guesthouse & Restaurant is 30.3 km south-west of Breathe Wild Mondulkiri Resort — a short ride rather than a walk. It is the closest place to the hotel under “restaurants”.

The next two places under “restaurants” from Breathe Wild Mondulkiri Resort are Restaurant Khropenphon (30.5 km) and Leur Banh Chao & Duck Egg (30.6 km), so there is a choice within a few minutes.

Chantha Sreypich is a guesthouse and restaurant in Sen Monorom's town centre, operating daily from 7 AM to 10 PM. The restaurant serves Cambodian dishes including kuy teav and pork rice. The guesthouse part is described by visitors as very basic, with rooms featuring incomplete walls that allow sound to travel between spaces, and some lacking windows or natural light. A rooftop area with views and seating is available to guests and diners.

Visitors report mixed experiences with pricing. Some found the restaurant good value and praised the owner's effort — one guest noted she roasts her own coffee beans and cooks everything from scratch, delivering authentic flavours. Others felt overcharged, citing a pork rice dish at USD 2.50 as disproportionately expensive for what was served, and flagged concerns about price differences for foreign visitors. The owner is consistently described as friendly and English-speaking. Complaints centre on noise from neighbouring loudspeakers that disrupts both the rooftop and sleeping areas, and the basic bathroom facilities. The rooftop itself draws repeated mention as pleasant and a useful place to escape the daytime heat.

The restaurant suits travellers seeking inexpensive local Cambodian food rather than fine dining. If considering a room, expect minimal comfort — fan-cooled dorms start around USD 5 and private rooms from USD 8, though noise issues and limited natural light are real factors. Come prepared for a spartan setup and potential sound disturbance. The friendly owner and working coffee farm add character if you value that over amenities. Best for backpackers on tight budgets or visitors focused on eating cheaply in town.

The venue appears to function as a gathering point for evening meals and drinks rather than a speciality restaurant.

Visitors consistently praise the food quality and service, with several mentioning reasonable pricing and a welcoming atmosphere. The restaurant draws comparisons as a favourite option in the town. One visitor noted the space felt quiet during their visit with limited other diners. A few guests flagged the lack of an English menu as a practical barrier, and one reviewer felt prices were slightly high relative to the area. Parking is not a concern according to visitor feedback.

The place suits travellers looking for an established local restaurant with music and beer in the evening. It opens at 7:00 AM and closes at 10:00 PM daily except Sunday, when hours are not listed. Visitors come to observe the animals in their woodland habitat through guided experiences that combine wildlife observation with light jungle trekking. The facility operates from a basecamp where overnight guests are accommodated. The project does not permit riding, bathing, or direct contact with elephants; instead, visitors maintain respectful distance while watching them move through the forest with their mahouts, the traditional keepers who manage them.

Visitors consistently praise the ethical approach to elephant welfare. Multiple reviews highlight that the sanctuary prioritises the animals' wellbeing by avoiding exploitative practices common at other facilities in the region. Guides receive particular mention for their knowledge and passion, especially regarding both elephants and the broader forest ecosystem. Guests who stayed overnight reported that the extended experience provided deeper insight into individual elephant personalities and allowed better observation. The basecamp food and hospitality are noted as genuine and well-prepared. Some visitors mention secondary activities like waterfall swimming and participation in conservation work such as planting bamboo for elephant feed.

The site is closed on Saturdays but operates seven days otherwise, opening at 7:00 AM on weekdays and 7:30 AM on Sundays. Visits must be pre-booked in advance. The overnight two or three-day options are frequently recommended by past visitors over single-day trips.
