Hotels near Peanichkam Market

Peanichkam Market is a wet market in Preah Sihanouk selling seafood, meat, and vegetables. It operates from early morning until 9 PM daily and serves primarily local shoppers rather than tourists. The stalls occupy both covered areas and street frontage, with vendors selling fresh catch and produce at prices lower than tourist-oriented alternatives.

Visitors consistently praise the freshness and affordability of the seafood and vegetables on offer. Several reviews note it functions well as an evening backup when other markets have closed, and that it draws a steady local crowd. However, the market has drawbacks that some find significant. Multiple visitors describe it as small, old, and dirty, with limited maintenance and poor housekeeping from authorities. The street-front vending creates traffic congestion in the area, and the parking situation is widely criticized as inadequate and chaotic, with vehicles parked haphazardly along the roadside.

The market is most crowded during early morning and evening hours. It suits visitors comfortable shopping in a no-frills local setting and willing to navigate crowded conditions. If you need seafood or fresh produce at local prices and cleanliness standards are not your primary concern, it remains a functioning option. Go early or later in the day if you prefer slightly less crowding, and expect tight parking. The market may be less suitable if you prefer orderly, sanitized environments or struggle with vehicular congestion.
