Hotels near Independence Beach

Independence Beach stretches along Preah Sihanouk's waterfront as a tree-lined shore with soft sand and a pier. The beach runs past the Howard Johnson Plaza by Wyndham Blue Bay Sihanoukville, where the sand is kept clear. Food vendors and restaurants operate along the beach, offering drinks and meals to visitors. The atmosphere tends toward quiet, and sunsets draw people to walk the shore or sit by the water.

Visitors describe the beach as calm and peaceful, though their experience of cleanliness varies significantly. The section near the resort is maintained and clean, making it suitable for swimming and sunbathing. Beyond that area, however, several reviewers report scattered trash and plastic, which detracts from the experience. Crowds are light, which appeals to those seeking relaxation over activity. Some visitors note a "weird atmosphere" in certain spots, and a few mention occasional panhandlers, though none reported aggressive behaviour. Overall, reviewers see it as a decent place for a quiet afternoon rather than a destination in itself.

Independence Beach works best for travellers staying in Sihanoukville who want a low-key spot for an hour or two—a walk, a beer, or a sunset. The maintained area near the resort is reliable; if you venture further along the shore, expect to encounter litter. It suits couples and families after peaceful time by the sea rather than swimmers seeking pristine conditions or those wanting organised beach activities. Visit during late afternoon if sunset views matter to you.
